Just wanting to get everyone's opinion. Not tryign to start a huge debate or argument. this goes for TX and any other state. Should we allow them for archery season?
I avoid Dick's and hope they fold.

Only hand made recurves shot by decendents of Native American tribes of Texas should be allowed......
Seriously, older folks can get into it and younger folks and disabled also. The method is up to the individual to find his own Zen. Recurve guys laugh at compound guys and compound guys laugh at xbow guys, who laugh at muzzleloader guys who laugh at rifle guys who laugh at hippies.
You still have to get into bow range to kill em.

You are about a year or two late in asking as they are already allowed.

I know I am late in asking, however after having the discussion with my friends and I see other states conforming their laws, I was curious to know about our fellow THFer's.
My opinion... I dont think that they should be allowed during archery season. I do believe that they are ok during general season. With that being said, I dont bash anyone for using one and I appreciate the fact that they are out enjoying the same resources that I do. Lord only knows, but I may need to use one someday.
I avoid Dick's and hope they fold.

Having owned both, I found the crossbow a handicap over my compound bow. If I had my way I would rather have a true primitive longbow/recurve season. Maybe even split the current season into two seasons with primitive bow first, then crossbow and primitive blackpowder second. And with hog hunting only allowed by the same method as the current deer hunting season. But that is never going to happen and crossbows in archery season are here to stay. Same as rifle hog hunting during archery season is here to stay. So depending on the day, I will continue to do any of all three as allowed. Same as in a couple weeks when I go fishing for a few days, I will be using both a fishing pole and jug lines. It's all good. As long as you get out there.

Absolutly it should be allowed. I always thought it was stupid that it wasnt allowed in the first place. A crossbow really isnt buying you any more range than a vertical bow anyway. It allows for more accurate shots than a vertical bow for the "average hunter" and I dont see how that could be a bad thing. Cant tell you how many leases I have called about over the years that dont allow bowhunting. When I ask them why they always say because we have had to many deer wounded in the past.
More accurate shots equals less wounded deer. Thats a win for the hunter, a win for the land owner, and a win for TPWD.
(Before all the Robin Hoods chime in about how they can out shoot a cross bow with thier vertical bow..........keep in mind I am talking about the "average hunter" since they make up the largest part of the hunting community.)

I voted yes. I dont see a x-bow giving the hunter an extreme advantage over a regular bow so why not.

If scoped and in-line BP rifles are allowed during that season, then I see no reason not to allow scoped recurve, compound, or crossbows during archery season. It's not like there is any real tradition trying to be preserved at this point.

I have a blown up rotator cuff in my left shoulder, if not for Crossbows I would not be able to archery hunt.

I see a lot of trying to justify what doesn't need to be justified. It's legal, it's accepted by the majority of hunters and even if it's not someone's cup of tea, like me, to bad. Just be glad someone is getting the chance to be there. It takes nothing away from anyone else' experience.
