School is like work, you follow the rules, if you want to change the rules, change them before playing by your own set of rules. Where he made his mistake was arguing with the teacher. He should have started by changing the rules.

Well-spoken 8th grader. Wearing a shirt supporting an ammendment to our constitution should never cause this sort of disruption. Had the shirt been supporting ANY other ammendment, this wouldn't even be an issue, especialy to a teacher. Granted, it might have gone over better had he quietly left school then contacted the press about how the teacher disrupted his educational process by raising a stink over his shirt which violated no written regulation. Or turned the shirt inside out and told how his 1st ammendment rights were violated by the teacher.

edited to add: Of course, had he taken either of the two above options the media would never run the story. Except maybe Gun Talk.
