Anyone know if it is legal to carry at the Dallas Zoo? Going Sunday with some family.

I have heard that there is a 30.06 sign posted, but it is not correct and in English only, thus making it invalid to my knowledge.

Anyone have the answer?

Last time I was there the sign was inside past the gate but that was before the law that allows carrying in parks was passed.

I had the same question last summer and stumbled upon another forum that had debated the same question. By time i read through the arguments of being "city owned", "not an ammusment park", and "improper posting," i decided I did not want to go to court to find out who was correct.
IMO, its up to you to understand the law and be prepared to deal with the risks and possible consequences. Wish i could give you a yes or no answer.

I feel the same way. Regardless of the answers I have received it seems to be a bit of a grey area. Which in my mind means it could be good or bad. Not worth the risk in my opinion.

Thanks for the quick reply fellas.

The answer is "NO". There are new signs posted a few weeks ago at both public and employee's entrances.

Last time I was there, there was a 30.06 posted inside the park after you go in, but it was not displayed correctly. I ended up walking a half mile back to the car to put my gun up. I understood their intent, and didn't want to try to fight that. I no longer carry at the Dallas Zoo.

I would say those signs are improper postings then, based on the fact that the Dallas Zoo website states that it is owned by the city of Dallas.

I haven't been there since last year, so if they changed their signage, then it's probably done correctly now. I doubt that their 30.06 intent has changed since then. So, I personally wouldn't carry in there. I'd go over to the FW Zoo, anyway.

If they are owned by the city of Dallas, as per their website, they aren't supposed to be posted anyway.

I guess acting like a banana and trying to split, would probably be detrimental in this scenario.

The property itself is still owned by the City, but the critters, the management, and maintenance of the entire operation is by DZM, Inc. (Dallas Zoo Management) a non profit orginazation.

So you should be good to go...it is still city property.

I don't know about the zoo itself but Im in that area a couple times a week for work and its not a fun place to be especially when they make you park on the street and walk half a mile to the zoo on sidewalks.

Same here. They wand alerted to my glock an I showed the guy my keys and he waved me past. I guess that security is just a show.

I bet they do. Call and ask to speak with a supervisor.

Ft Worth zoo is a no go as well. 30.06 sign on the guard shack, ground level, as you drive in. Wife spotted it.
