I will be necking down some 35 Whelen brass to 338-06. I necked up some 30-06 brass but feel I will get better brass life out of the Whelen.
The Whelen brass is once fired. It shows a noticable crimp mark as well as most every case is dinged on the mouth from ejecting. I know this brass will be long after its resized and will need to be trimmed.
Given the crimp and the ding will I be better off trimming before resizing? I think the pilot will take the ding out and I will be trimming off the crimp. I feel this will make resizing easier. Any suggestions? I do not want to take off too much brass thats my main concern.

Sizing first makes more sense to me, if for no other reason than you insure that you don't take too much off...

I'd say sizing first too. Depending on what type of trimmer you use...the trimmer pilot might be a pain to get through the deformed case mouth.

If you trim then size, it's likely you will need to trim again. I always clean and size first.
Cast I have a short attention spa

Cast is correct. Size then trim.

I always clean and size first, then trim. After deburring/neck swage/primer pocket clean/deburr I'll remove primer crimp if necessary, then throw it back in the tumbler before priming/loading.
