Here is a knife I just finished. It's 9" long with a 4 1/4" blade with a nickel silver guard. The steel is 440C stainless. The handle is Cholla cactus and turquoise pommel.

If it ain't sharp, it's just a piece of metal.

Sweet looking knife. Love the handle. Does the cactus already have the black color or do you add that to it?

@ Pitchfork Predator - The Cactus when dead normally has holes there and is hollow up the center. It has to be filled with a dyed resin in order to produce that effect. I've wondered about playing with the idea of using a dark blue / purple with sparkle to see how it would turn out ! smile

That sounds like it would have a cool look with a dark blue. Thanks for the explanation.

Are you stabilizing the Cholla before filling it with epoxy? As porous as it is it will expand and contract with humidity changes if it isn't stabilized. Just curious.

Hi Mike, No I'm not stabilizing it. That Cholla is so darn hard, I doubt it would even do any good to stabilize it. I have a cholla knife I made for myself a few years back and I've never had any issues with expansion or contraction.

Okay, if you've never had and issues maybe I'm wasting my time with the stabilization. I've been know to waste my time before.

very interesting concept. I too think a colored resin would look awesome.

Nice one indeed. The really long clip gives it a kind-of mean look. Very cool.

How do you sharpen that Cholla? Sorry, couldn't resist. After Boston and West and other news I need to find some humor. Happy someone has found another use for it besides lamps.
