Welcome to the THF. While a 22 LR would not be most folks first choice I don't think, it can be done. I would keep shots to under 50 yars, 30 would be better. I would confine shots to either in the ear, or midway between the ear and the eye, on most pigs up to about 100 pounds or so Frontal brain shots I would want to be withing 25 yards or less and wouldn't try it on a pig over about 60 pounds live weight. The above is just my opinion, others mileage and experience may or will vary. Concentrate on making the first shot take the animal down, save the second shot for when you get up to the animal and use it as a finisher. It might not be necessary, but shooting it again in the head from a few feet, will just give you a little bit of insurance that might prove useful, especially on the larger oinkers. I do not think I would attempt a body shot on a pig of any size unless I was willing to empty every shot in the gun on the animal, and I am just talking about with a 22 LR here. Best of Luck and hope you enjoy the site.

Its works you just have to ear hole them. Definetly not the body!

Welcome to the forum, it's possible. My Grandfather used to finish them on the farm with one right behind the ear. If I were you, I would use your "30.06" and get some practice in for deer season. That being said, I've a 17 HMR I really want to bag a hog with.

Seen the commercial, the wildness of that pig that is shot leaves much to the imagination however.

I believe you can kill anything with a .22. All about the head shot.

I have killed a big sow with my 17HMR. One shot in the ear-hole on a broad side shot. She fell like a piano landed on her. DRT.
So YES, it can be done. But most would agree that this is the 3rd to last weapon to be used when hunting hogs with a sling-shot at spot #2, and a jagged rock coming in at #1 on that list.
If you have a high powered center-fire rifle--use it!
A hog is nothing more than a bullet receptacle.

Busted 1 a couple years ago at 22 yds with 22lr. Sow about 110lbs. Got down to get her and she sits up, shakes her head and flat RUNN OFT! Good head shot, or so I thought. Just knocked her out. Next weekend, walked down my road to check feeders and try to get that black squirrel I had been seeing so all I had was my 22 and walked up on about 15 all around 50 - 100lbs. Took a good brace on a tree and put 1 right in the ear. Dropped like a rock. All I could think about was last week and quickly put 3 more in her head. Dressed out at 90 lbs. Shot 1 at 40 yds with 30-06 with a 50 grn accelerator. Hit him right tween the eyes. Just scorched the hair on his head. Bullit exploded on contact.
I carry a gun because a cop is to heavy!

I just killed a hog that weighted over 250 with a .22 several weeks ago. Just shoot it right behind the ear and they drop.

22's a great and fun, use your skill, larger ones should be head shot while the little ones running off could be body shot, shoot them all.

No one should shoot any game over 40 lbs with a .22 Thats just not right IMO. I understand people hate pigs but come on, show a little respect for a living animal.
And of course one "can" kill a pig with a .22 But your a liar if you say you can do it every time or even greater than 65-70% of the time. I "could" throw my pocket knife and kill one also LOL.
Just use a better gun. We do not need any more ammo for the PETA people.

I saw that commercial on www.gamousa.com . I wonder if the guy had a .45 and hi cap mag in his belt in case it just pissed it off and the squealing brought 20 of them.

Just remember that more humans have been killed over time with a .22 than any other caliber.

People are weak...hogs aren't! Not even a good comparison.

I agree with BigCat... A single shot shotgun goes for the same price range as a .22. Use a slug.....one shot 1 kill. Small caliber guns have their place, but using a .22 on hog is like saying...lets see if a Geo metro can stop an 18 wheeler. Gun up or go to smaller game. JMHO

You cannot kill a hog shooting it between the eyes, you will be under the brain. Shoot behind the ear or behind the shoulder on those 100 lbs or less. I have killed many like this up to 60 yards with 22. Accuracy is the rule and hogs have a body shape that takes getting use to.
