Anyone have any experience hunting the open archery/muzzleloader areas on Fort Hood? I have dove hunted there before but never deer. Should I find a spot and hang a tree stand? Or should I look at getting a popup and be prepared to move around? Tips on the better areas is appreciated as well.

www.forthoodhunting.com/ I would think if a treestand is allowed it would be better but I understand it is a first come type spot and a popup blind might be best.

I've read all the regs. My question is really that since it is public, then is it really wise to hunt on the ground? I would feel safer in a tree, but that would limit my ability to move and relocate. I am wondering if most just scout, pick a location and hunt it the whole season.

I don't know what to tell ya bud. I think the area's marked to hunt are first come each morning. If so I would get a nice single blind that is easy to handle and hunt from it.

This my fear. I understand the possibility of showing and someone sitting in m y treestand. But I am able to hunt more during the week so this shouldn't be a problem, I hope. The getting shot thing is what really worries me. Just not sure who is in the area with you.

I hunted hood for years. the best thing i have found is to hunt on the ground, that way you can take the blind out with you. if you don't, i guarantee that thing will grow legs and leave without you.
