With the '51 I would recommend a loading stand. Makes things easier. I use wonder wads between the powder and ball. Ran with bore butter over the ball at first until the gun was broken in and fully covered with lube. Probably an unnecessary step but wanted the virgin barrel to be well coated to help with cleanup and corrosion resistance.
2nd tip is to keep Windex in your range bag. Spray it down every few cylinders to keep the corrosion at a minimum.
Mine shoots .454 balls.

whin seating the ball their should be a sliver of lead around the cylender ball should be just a hair bigger.. .454 or .451 round ball for the .44cal if loading all six use crisco oil over the seated balls.. would try find some one close bye any gun ranges close bye?

My loading proces:

30 gr ffg in each cylender. Press ball tightly into each cylender. Top off each cylender with grease to prevent crossfires. place cap on each nipple. Fire.

I have never used a wad, and never have had a problem. Black powder is dirty. After about 3 cylenders you will need to clean before firing again, or the cylender will have issues rotating...at least that is my experience.

They are fun to load and shoot, but a nasty mess to clean. Had a Ruger Old Army in SS, loved it. Hated cleaning it.

Take off the grips and put it in the dishwasher. Works fine.
