I had a decent weekend this past. No hunting or fishing but related. I attended the international convention of hunter educators in San Antonio. I figured with Texas Parks and Wildlife hosting it here in the state, I'd better go. I left out early Friday morning and attended both Friday and Saturday events. I missed out on meeting Wayne LaPierre of the NRA but couldn't take that much time off work for this. I only got Friday off because Saturday was my birthday and the company I am with is now giving us birthdays off. Anyhow, as I was mingling around one of the halls I noticed him. If you have ever watched the Realtree Road Trips or Bone Collector hunting show you might know him. It's Micheal Waddell's father, Edwin. He is a super guy and fun to talk to. One of those guys that has never meet a person he doesn't know. He even gave me the inside scoop on next seasons turkey hunting show from Florida. I watched him kill an oceola on his cell phone! lol Not long after I seen a tall fella round the corner in a black cowboy hat. Again, if you ever watch the outdoor channels or follow hunting, you would know him. Jim Shockey holds a multitute of muzzleloader records. He and his daughter were there supporting a sponsor at the vendor show. He stayed the night then had to head out as he had to get back to finish an African hunt. There were several seminars during the weekend and I really enjoyed the ones I attended. Gil Ash, who owns and runs OSP and is an expert shotgun instructor, gave a great presentation on shooting and teaching how to shoot. I meet the president of Outdoor Edge knives and told him of an issue I had with one of his knives. He insisted I send it to him and if it cannot be fixed it will be replaced. Outdoor Edge has been a long time supporter of the hnter education program across the US. Also in the mist of vendor day was Alpine Optics which I plan to get new binos from soon. Aimpoint was there as well and I got some great info on reddot scopes. This was all topped off by a suprise I got at the awards show. I made the last tier of "rewards" for volunteer instructors. I was entered into the Hall of Fame! Now my name is among a group of less than 90 that have made it there. Yessir, pretty good weekend.
