I love to spring turkey hunt! I REALLY love to spring turkey hunt with my bow! The spring archery season opened here in Kansas on Monday for turkey. I have some new private land to hunt this year and I have been getting some great pics of gobblers on my trail camera. Well, Monday morning (opening day) I got in my pop-up blind before sunrise and to my surprise, a gobbler pitched down 30 yards from me. A few minutes later a hen pitched down about 30 yards in the other direction. As they made their way towards each other, he wound up right in front of me at 17 yards. I drew back my Mathews LX and squeezed off the release. Turkey #1 was on the ground. I went back for an evening hunt on the same day with my son, same blind. We saw no turkeys at all until 10 minutes before legal shooting time ended. 5 big gobblers came barreling in and stopped 11 yards from our blind. A few seconds later, my second Tom of the year was on the ground! We have a 2 bird limit in KS, so I am done for the year. I've never tagged out on opening day before. It was incredible and it was even better that I got to shoot the second one with my son in the blind with me. Here are a few pics of the birds. The first picture was the one I shot in the morning, the second picture was the one I shot in the evening. I had a blast! God is GOOD!

Congrats, tagging out in the first or second day is fun but sure makes for a short season. If the place I am hunting allows for it I then try to take friends or new hunters out for them a bird. The most fun of Spring turkey is calling them in close.
