Around 250, parallax starts at 10 yards.

Whatever you purchase I would suggest an Adjustable Objective.....most CF scope are set to be parallex free at 100 to 150 yards....AO will let you fine tune parallex.....

I had a Nikon 4x I got from Cabelas for $107 that was a great scope.

On the low end of your budget, the Mueller APV goes for less then $150.

Simmons makes a scope for 22lr that's very reasonable.

I have a pride fowler Rapid reticle. It gives ranges in 20 yd increments from 60-200yds. Works great with almost all bulk pack ammo 1200-1300fps. youtube the videos.

My question revolves around this too, but what rifles is the best all round for plinking? I know the scope is just part of the equation.

Ruger 10/22, lots of aftermarket parts if you want to make it into a target rifle later on.

Depends on what you're using it for. Out to 50-60yards, my son is a rabbit and tin can killer with his 10/22 with cheap red dot scope. If you are looking for super tight groups, the better glass you get, the better groups you will get.

with something with that low of recoil you dont need to go all out on optics, but you dont want to go too cheap.... Like the ones at walmart in the plastic packaging on the shelf probably isnt the best bet. just goes on to what you want/like.
