Hauling the camper trailer down to the ranch soon. It'll be going by our old home place which is a rat and snake trap...old house, barn, garage, cars, trash, tractors you name it... Reluctant to keep it here but I will have power, water, and seacrate container for storage. Want to seal the trailer up so no snakes, mice or rats get in it. Anyone have any suggestions? I know in the past at our deer lease some of the trailers had these problems. I want to try to keep it sealed so I don't worry about any creepy crawlers at night!

What you need is to put something in it that keeps them away. Moth balls work for quite a few things, but they make it hard for you too. Mice and rats will either find a hole or make one. Snakes will follow the mice. Sorry I don't have a better answer. You can repel, I don't think you can seal.

Yeah I've always heard moth balls work somewhat good but are bad for pets. And I'd have my pup with me most of the time... Figured I'd seal up any cracks or holes with steel wool then use expanding foam over that. But like you said they will chew a new hole..

Steal wool and expanding foam works. To keep snakes away from under my camper, I always spread Snake Away. I got it from Home Depot. It works. I've also heard Lyme works to keep both mice and snakes away.

If you can't find the snake away, crush the mothballs and add sulpher to it and then spread it. If you have full time electricity get one of those things that plugs into a wall socket that drive away pests. Got one in the trailer, one in my shop and one in the attic of our house. If you keep the mice (food) away the snakes will go somewhere else. Also don't leave any partially eaten foodstuffs around. (Chips, candy bars etc - mice love a meal).

Put lots of mouse bait around the outside of the trailer. Best to kill them before they find a way inside.

I like to keep a radio on! It usually works! Talk shows work best!

Couple of good barn cats will help keep the mice and snakes at bay.

Yep cats come in two styles. Barn/Alley cats and House cats. I've got one of each and my House cat won't do harm to mice, snakes, or birds. She will lay and play with them until she gets bored. Now my alley cat is a mouse chasing, bird catching, and bug eating demolition cat.

You aren't going to be able to seal out a rodent who wants in, but you can annoy them & make it harder.

Steel wool (or copper mesh) in all cracks. There is a foam you can use with the steel wool that makes it more difficult for them to pass. Check Amazon for that stuff.

Clean the inside thoroughly with Lysol or some other disinfectant cleaner. Don't leave any food items in it unless canned.

Dryer sheets!!!! Spread them in all storage compartments both inside and out. Under drawers etc. It does work.

I have had mixed feelings on bait poison. I don't want to attract them. I'm afraid the smell may linger after it has been eaten & attract more. You could set some snap traps in the outside compartments and use sticky traps inside.

As mentioned, a couple of cats will work too. Is there a way to keep them fed & watered when you aren't there?

X2 on the dryer sheets. Works really well. Also steel wool in every hole you can find.

I kept my 37' 5th wheel on our old lease for several years with no problems. I graded out a pad to keep the trailer on and used crushed decomposed granite for its surface. I kept the tires and legs of the trailer sprayed with bug spray. One of the other guys out there had his trailer just on dirt with some weeds grown around the trailer. We killed several snakes around his trailer. Best thing I've found was a clear open space. Good luck.

No way to take care of cats when I'm gone..yotes would probably get em anyways. Will keep the dryer sheets in mind along with the noise making ideas. Guessing mothballs won't work well I've read a lot of mixed reviews on them. Was going to grade a small pad for it and keep grass around it mowed but it's just the fact it'll still be so close to all the old buildings, brush piles, and all the old ranch crap..don't see there's anyway I can keep everything out or away from it

Those cats will take care of themselves if you can just provide water.We've got 7 barns and about 15 cats running around that are wild as a coon. They won't let anybody come near them, but I can't remember the last time we saw a mouse or a snake.
When the cats get up to about 20 in number, we trap them and give them to friends who need barn cats. They're eating something..definitely not skinny.

So they eat it and then get in the trailer

What's the best way to get the mice out once they have gotten in? Got some traps set but they get the bait without finding their real surprise.

Fresh cab I believe its called is a little bag of stuff you put in the trailer keeps rats away and the sulphur you buy at Home Depot for your lawn in pellets spread around will take care of just about everything else.

Yep. This works pretty good. Just make sure you change it out after about 1 1/2 months. It even works on skunks. I had one burrow under a wood pile and I hung this stuff just above the den and he quit coming back. Our best trap is a 5 gallon bucket filled with water. Put a small piece of styrofoam covered in peanut butter in the center. You can guess what happens. Just make sure to dump it before you leave.
