Anything 6.5mm is worth taking a look at, it is int he sweet spot of the bullet world as far as ballistic coefficients go. The 6.5x55 is IMHO the best military small arms round ever developed. Inherently accurate, coupled with Swede machine work, good bullet weight, and relatively light recoil make it a rifle for the everyday guy. I love 7mm and 8mm Mausers, but have never found one as accurate or comfortable to shoot as the 6.5mm. Plus the 6.5mm is perfect for texas hunting.

Ever since my original post on the thread I have been looking for a good Mauser 96 in 6.5x55, I am shocked how much they are going for now. I sell and trade alot guns and I only regret selling about 2 of them and my old swede is one of those two.

I have a modified 1909 argentine cavalry carbine, re-chambered in .30-06, that I enjoy. The finish has been worked on since this pic.

Update: Just got a Mannlicher Schoenauer 1952 with double set triggers in 7x57mm in the Rock Island Auction. Has a period scope on it.

Can't wait to get my hands on it to see how it shoots....

The Mannlicher Schoenauer is a very different action but it is also a classic. Here's a link Chuck Hawks write up http://www.chuckhawks.com/m-s_carbine.htm

nsmike thanks for posting that great article. I learned a lot there.

Yes different but thoroughly European.

It looks great so when are you planning to break it in. I would think, a quick trip to the range and a hog hunt, might be in your near future.

Clay, you did good!

I have a tang Ruger 77 in 7x57, a 200th year liberty model. I've shot lots of stuff with it over the last 30+ years.

Not near as sexy as your mannlicher, however.

Great snag!

Thank you guys. It is very nice but not too nice to have to baby it, just honest hunting wear. Man I can't believe the set trigger-once it is set the pull must only be a couple of ounces. I feel as if I breathe too hard it will break.

Without setting feels like about 5-6 lbs. with a fair amount of creep.

Keep us up to date I've always liked the looks of the 1952 carbine.

Played with the Mannlicher today. Here's a group while still messing with the scope adjustment a little. Cheapo Remington Core-Lokts. The last 4 were the ones on the same horizontal plane just below the bullseye. Not bad for an old Weaver K3 scope.

I've wanted one of those for a while. A little different, but still a great rifle. Also, great caliber choice!

Beautiful rifle! Congratulations! Looks like it shoots pretty good too. I've got a CZ 308 with a Mannlicher stock. It too is a beautiful looking and shooting rifle. It has a SST which makes it very accurate and fun to shoot.

The CZs are beautiful. I have seen some with wood that looks like the finest Turkish walnut.
