I have a yard dog. I found her about 14 years ago in a swamp while hog hunting. I took her home and put her in the back yard. I cut a doggy door through the wall into the laundry room. She has the run of the yard and laundry room. I have always kept a 2 gallon food bowl full of food and she has a small kid swimming pool she likes to play in.

I noticed for the last little while that she is eating a ton of food and she is loosing weight. She use to eat about 1 1/2 cups per day. Now the food bowl would just empty all at once. So I decided to put my game camera up last night.

I shouldn't have deleted the pics, but I watched picturs this morning of her constantly walking the perimeter of the yard and every time she would walk by the food or swimming pool, she would look into them. I started to think she was getting old and just going crazy. Then she walked through the doggy door. Immediately 3 raccoons showed up from 3 different directions. Minutes later, my dog came running out and chased them off. This went on from midnight until I took the card out at 4:30am. She would try to go to bed, they would attack, then she would chase them off. At one point, one of them went for a swim in her pool. Talk about a slap in the face.

Poor girl. She is a senior citizen and having to fight for her food. Looks like I am going to have to help tonight.

sounds like she is getting a little too much age on her... maybe start looking for a 6month to year old hound to be your next dog and handle what is quite obviously a coon problem...

Hey Stinkbelly, I think I remember you saying that you have a trap but if I'm wrong & you need to borrow one, I have a nice one you're welcome to use.

When I still Coon Hunted and kept a kennel full of hounds we hunted by Helotes once and caught a Coon that wgt'd 38lbs...largest one I think I've ever seen in Texas..very near the NSSA off 471..I gave it to my buddys son who was hunting w/us
and he said he was going to make a Cap from it..Told him it'd cover about 3 heads..I saw some pictures of some Northern Coon in
Mn. that wgt. in the 60lb class..but they said they don't run much..most down here go 12 to 18lbs..DD

With 2 DDs this should not be a problem for long.

I caught one in a live trap last night. This moring the yard dog was sleeping near it. It kind of looked like she was bragging. She never sleeps outside.

Caught another one. My boys wanted to keep it. I then showed them how friendly it was when you put a stick into the live trap. It sounded like a cat fight.

I caught #3 on Thursday night and #4 last night. This one looks old. Maybe it is a grandparent looking for the grandkids.

Only one has been aggressive towards me so far.

My rescue DD doesn't know what the raccoon is. It is sad, but he looked a little afraid of it when I let him walk near the live trap.

To hunt quail and ducks, you really don't need them sharp to fur.

I hunt a ton more than quail and ducks. Luckily Izzy will take care of that for me. Deuce is the rescue I got at 6 or 7 years old. The only thing he had hunted his entire life before I got him was his next meal.

He will learn if I want him to. He is really smart.
