I'll say it again. Get the Owner's Manual and go to the Maintenance pages and read what Yamaha's recommendations are for oil. They'll probably give you 3 options, based on the temperature range of where you live. And they almost certainly will give you the specification requirements of the oils that are recommended.

Or...get a bottle of the Yamalube and read the specs off the back of the bottle. Use those specs as a guide to buy a less expensive oil with those SAME specs at NAPA or O'Reilly's or Walmart.

That's what I'd do IF I was out of the warranty period of the ATV. If still in the warranty period, buy more Yamalube.

easttex, we could start a debate over what color the sky is today. All we need is a topic that we can have a good hearty discussion about (beer, girls, ATV's, trucks, scopes, rifles, bullet construction, high/low fencing, music, 'can I shoot neighbor's pet chupacabra?', and on and on and on).

On another forum there were practially threats of violence over what roof is best for a deer blind. I had no idea that roofing was a bar fight topic.

I can't speak for all the others, but I really have learned some valuable info on many topics on this forum and others. My lifelong assumptions have been challenged quite a few times and I found that I had been wrong or at least a bit offbase.

Of the forums I've been on, this one (by far) has the best sense of humor. I like that.

The service manager, at the Yamaha dealership, that I talked to said the real reason for certain kind of oil is for the wet clutch. If your atv,utv has a wet clutch then you DO NOT want to use an automotive type oil. Those type oils normally have to many friction reducing additives. He did say that any oil designed for MOTOTCYLES would be fine, just be sure to use the right weight.

Gee, I wonder what oil the Yamaha guy would recommend? Is it a shock that he recommended what he sells. Yamaha does not make motor oil. They have it made, bottled, and labeled here in the US by the folks that make motor oil. There could be a minor difference in the qualities of the oil, which is why I keep saying to read the back of the oil can and see what the specs are and then buy an oil that meets those specs.

It's a very good marketing ploy to make your product mysterious, so gullible people won't switch to a cheaper alternative.

Like 603country keeps saying all oils in the US are rate by API (american petroleum institute) standards. These standars will be shown in your owners manual stating it must meet x, y, and z standards. Go find a bottle of oil and read its service rating until you find one that meets x, y, and z rating and your done buy it and use it. Its not rocket science.

And im pretty sure tha by law they cannot make you use yammalube, you just have to use whatever meets their required service rating.

Which will be designated by an oil rating on the side of the bottle and in the owners manual where needed.

already told yall quit worrying about the clutch thats not the problemo if there is one, the transmission in a motorcycle shears the oil, it breaks it down faster than car oil. just change it regularly.
