we have (8) 34-inch high hog panels around our corn and protein feeders. never had a problem with cows, goats or sheep. if a bull or cow every wanted to jump into our feed pen or tear it up.. That animal will be taking a ride to the sale barn.

I make all of ours round with 12 pannels, half hog panels (36") and half cattle panels (52")
Normally never have a problem but once in a while a crazy a$$ cow decides it likes the protein and they can jump over the shorter pannels or I should run over them.
never had a problem with hogs getting in

The deer will almost always jump in and out over the shorter pannels...they are lazy. If excited they jump out anywhere

T-posts and 4 strands of barb wire have done a good job for us for years. Keeps the cows out and lets the deer and hogs in. Cheap also.

10 hog panels work for me. Two years and no issues. Wish I had not waited so long to do it.

Make sure you have enough room for the deer to jump in they don't like small pens

I make my pens round out of 10 panels or larger. I use 34" hog panels and have had great luck with them. If you have cattle that are jumpers then you will have to taller. Using the 52" cattle panels and cutting down one every so often like posted above is best. What ever you do make it big enough to keep all the feed inside and unwanted animals as far from the feed as you can. Deer have poor depth perception also.

We did 8x 16 ft cattle panels in a circle and cut 3-4 cut outs for the deer.. Seem to work so far except for when i shot at a target on the inside of the pen and hit a wire.

Not sure you fully appreciate the value of a herd bull.

We put up the 34" panels last year and they kept the hogs and cows out. I have tons of photos of the cows coming up to the pen but they really made no attempt to get in and I fed alfalfa this year so I know they were tempted. Obviously, if a large hog rerally wants in those panels won't stop him...same for cows. We were ready to add a strand of barbed wire above the panels if necessary but for now we don't need it.

Most of you fellas probably already know this. I build round feed pens and here is how I do it.

Find an area that's clear enough for a 50' pen. (I like to build 50' pens but you can build them any size)
Drive a stake in the center of where the feed pen is going to be.
Take a 25' tape measure and some orange marking paint and have someone hold the tape at the stake.
Walk in a circle marking the ground where the pen is going to be.
On that circle, measure every 8' and drive a T post.
Now you have a 50' pen..
50 X 3.14 = 157' Panels are 16' divide that into 157'= 9.8 panels,,or 10 panels.

Pretty much how I do mine but I have a piece of rope that I loop around my center stake. Stretch it out, drive a post, tie the first panel to the post and work my way around. Just make sure you grab the right rope out of the back seat of the truck. I didn't one time and we are not going to talk about how that pen looks. eeks333

When I build a pen I start by laying the panels out end to end in circle.

I then drive in one post to start.

I start by attaching the first panel to the Tpost with concrete wire ties and a tie tool.

I can come back and tie later with galvanized tiewire if I want to. I then keep attaching panels together overlaping one stage and tie with concrete tie wire till I have them all tied in a circle.

I then shape it to a circle and drive in all the Tpost. I leave the last panel as my gate section to get in and out.

It a very fast and effecient way to build a pen. I used to be able to build one in about 30-45 minutes start to finish doing them this way if the area is open enough to not need any clearing or to rocky of ground.
