I have seen this first hand. One day I was at work and one of my employes showed up late and I confronted him and 2 others that were with him. Noticed the car had a busted grill and they told me they had hit a buck and he was in the trunk. I asked to see him and when trunk came open the deer busted out. I ran off in fear of being gored but these crazy azz guys tackled the deer and the fight insued. There was punches and kicks and after about 30 seconds of them getting whooped one pulled a knife and ended the deers misery. Apparently he was knocked unconscious and had broken its hip but still had a lot of fight left. It was the scariest and funniest thing I've ever seen. Glad my guys walked away with no holes in them. After the ordeal I asked them what the hell they were thinking they all replied, never knew a damn deer was so strong.

Yes it's legal as long as its season and its properly tagged.

So if you hit a deer on accident, you have to waste one of your tags?

As I understand it, it's just if you intend to eat that deer. If you leave it where it lays then it's fine.

I was told by a GW that it was illegal to hit a deer with your car (assuming accidental) and take it. Vehicles are not a legal method.

Now I have "heard" of GW's letting people take the deer after it was checked out. But, we all know how the grapevine works so I don't know how accurate that is.

NOT LEGAL! The only way to keep a deer legally that was killed on the highway by a vehicle is to contact the game warden . He/she can give you permission otherwise not legal.

This, and once the GW does give permission you do have to tag it correctly.

i knew a guy back in the 70s that hit a deer and thought it was dead and through it in the back seat of the car....10min later it came to life destroyed the car and liked to killed both guys my friend finaly cut its throat

A friend hit one once. A sherif stopped to help them asked if he had a hunting license and if he wanted the deer, which he did, the sherif told him to fill out his tag and he field dressed it for him and put it in the back of the truck.
