I will be moving my things from Throckmorton to my new lease in Brady around late May to early June. My question is this, does the Brady area have an over abundance of hogs or is it minimal? I believe we will be a few miles NE of town.

Every year it seems like there are more and more of them in all areas. There is one very large ranch that started doing hog hunts and cut back on numbers control. Numbers are now out of control. A lot will just depend on what is around your new lease for cover, food and water.

I think you are probably going to have above average amount of hogs depending on how much the past hunters hunted them. You may be around the Rochelle or East Sweden area? I grew up in the area and there are some good folks in that part of the country!

good luck

Years ago I hunted a 3000 acre ranch just east of the Brady square. We had lot of deer and hogs. We had the Brady creek running through the place. The hunting on this ranch had some of the best hunting I’ve ever had.

Our lease is just north of Brady Lake and we have no hogs and I hope it stays that way.

I used to hunt halfway between Brady and Eden and we never saw hogs or sign of them....but that was 8 years ago.

Best friend has a place north of Melvin. The trend is hogs population gets bigger every year

You're going to find, as others have mentioned, that typically rain/water goes East of the "Santa Anna" highway and leaves most of the West side a bit dry. (I lived there for a while, West of Santa Anna hgwy, so I might be a bit biased.)
If hogs are pushed for water they will either be West and South of Melvin (Towards Brady reservoir.) Or East of the Santa Anna Hghy. My parents still live out there and my Father has NEVER mentioned hogs. And believe me, he would. (Specifically, Carol Colony Road, no hogs.) Plenty of Axis, White Tail, Quail, Dove, and a few big cats and other Fox/Coyotes, but not a ton. Heck, we USED to have a large Porcupine population. That was before my brothers and I took care of that problem.
Enjoy Brady, just don't expect much. And, if possible, stay out of trouble. The cops there LOVE screwing with people.

I grew up in Brady and there are areas of McCulloch county that do not have many hogs. It seams like the south eastern parts of the county have more hogs...towards Llano and Mason. A friend of mine with 2k acre ranch on the Concho/McCulloch county line south of Melvin does not have many hogs. I have hunted near Voca for the last 15 years and in the last 3 years we have seen a huge increase in hogs at our feeders.

I'm not sure if it is true but I heard that all the goat fence toward Menard has slowed their progression in that direction.

It can be very good and it can also be very frustrating. I've hunted around Brady for over 15 years. The great thing is you will almost always see deer. I've sat at a feeder many times and watched over 20 deer at a time and even more in wheat fields. The frustrating part is that the hunting pressure in areas is very high and I've had picture after picture on the game cam of doe and hardly any bucks. The larger ranches have some very nice bucks and lots of big deer are taken. Good luck with the new lease!

I can attest to this, we have goat fence on most of our place (no goats, thank goodness) and TIGHT 8 strand on the other parts. We finally got the hogs off this area, then the drought hit. We opened up another 200 acres for cows to graze and the hogs are back. I like having them back actually, they taste real good.
