Excellent prospects in the entire area. What a comeback from two years ago. According to Game Warden/Abilene some quail have nested two times with rare three time nesting in some areas where rainfall has been exceptional. On 09-30-04 while working my bird dog, we ran across a covey of newly hatched quail perhaps 2 weeks old. Possibility exists for some very young birds on opening day.

I know we have 3 hatches on the ground in Snyder. It has gotten better each of the past 3 years. Can't wait for the first cold front to come barreling through to get the dogs some work.

We have also had 3 hatchings near Midland, TX. I am chomping a the bit to get started. It should be a great year!

Excellent to hear. Glad it is not a figment of my imagination as some that have not had birds like this in a decade have kidded me. It is raining cats and dogs outside now. Come on rain and weeds for the little birds. From Abilene to Snyder to Stanton is a very, very large area for the bird populations to make such a comeback. To many lean years in between times like this.

I hunt about 25 miles east of Abilene and I have seen a dramatic increase in quail numbers this year. I hope this is the beginning of a new trend.

I've read serveral articles that say the boom or bust thing will continue for eternity. Thing is we're covered up with them this year and could quite possibly be starving for them next year. Moral to this story is lets enjoy the little suckers while we can!
