Yep, that's right. Gonna be a spot of Red in that sea of Black. I may be crazy, but I entered Dash in the Big D Retriever Club's Junior Hunt Test in April.

I have a challenge ahead of me and not a lot of time to do it, but I think I have enough to work with to prepare him for a pass. The main thing I care about is that Dash will have fun. Not just at the test but with the training. Besides I am really looking forward to watching some of the Master dogs work while I am there. I saw they have a full slate of 120 dogs in the Master. I bet there are some really incredible dogs in in with those.

Any THF retrievers headed to this one?

Here is Dash with his first Duck to retrieve last season.

FYI, Angie spent a good amount of her time on the phone with me today answering my questions, giving me advice, and encouragement. Very big public thank you to her.

I was only entered in Saturday originally, but I just got word I am covered at work, so I will be entered for both days then. If you see the guy with the funny looking red dog, say hi. Please! I will probably be feeling a little uncomfortable with the only non Retriever breed there. AKC only started allowing Vizslas in 2011.

Me too! Entirely different thing. Going to be a huge learning experience for me. And then I am entering him in a NAVHDA test next month as well. Yet another first for me.

There is only one Vizsla to ever receive a JHR title.

DC AFC Valleyhunter Vermilion Grant, CD MH JHR VC ROM NAVHDA NA and UT Prize 1

Grant was sired by Dash's Grandfather "Ike". Grant is also a half brother to my Blaze also sired by Ike. Blaze has certainly proven herself in the retriever department. In some difficult hunting conditions too. So it should be in Dash's blood. Still he is young and a self thinker. It will be a challenge, but I am going for it. Blaze is in the next room coaching him right now.

Luke got a JH pass on our first try @ the Waterloo test this past wknd. I won't be @ Big D, but planning on being @ the Alamo test in a few weeks. No Vizslas in our test, but a flat coat, a couple of chessies and a couple of Boykins. Good luck!

You and your dog will have a blast! Hunt test are so much fun, especially if you're looking for fun and trying to learn. You can learn a ton from watching other handlers.

I will be there running Senior with my Boykin Spaniel, he needs one more pass for his title. I will come find you so I can watch Dash run. You won't be hard to find with that red dog, as I won't be hard to find with my little brown dog.

Dash is 34th, next to last. He is going to be wound up like a rubber band when they get to him. That is good though. Being my first time, it gives me plenty of time to observe and learn. On average how long does it usually take to run through that many dogs?

It depends on several variables. Check with the Marshall when you arrive, 9 times out of 10 the running order will quickly change based on the number of pros and their running order in other stakes.

That being said, when it is finally your turn, TAKE YOUR TIME!!! I would venture to guess that 90% of the mistakes made are by handlers who get in too big of a hurry.

I'll be there as well running senior. Best of luck!!!!

Check in with the Marshal when you get there so he or she knows you're there and ready to run. When the pro's show up they will need to fit dogs in between the pro dogs.

Since it's your first time be there for the handlers meeting at the start of the stake. I know it means being there at 8:00 but it's well worth your while to go and ask questions. You will also see the test dog run.
