I built one a few years ago and had my insulation guy foam insulate it while he was doing a house for me. My 2 year old had a movie blaring, bouncing off the walls, and jumping up and down and the deer dont even know we are there. It is also sealed up like a Yeti cooler. I can turn on the propane heater for 5 mins and it is hotter-n-heck in there.

I like the idea previously mentioned about a lower shelf, about a foot below the windows. That keeps hand movement out of the windows.

Pop up blinds are a lot less than 7' tall.

A 7' tall blind is rediculous

that was my thought at first....but alot of blinds being sold are 4x4's.

I'm betting a lot of 4 x 4's get sold because that is all some folks can afford. The cost is all they can consider.

I have a metal 4 x 4 and rarely set it because I hate it. It's too small. In the spring, summer and fall it is too dang hot. The metal just absorbs and transmits more heat....and mine is insulated.

The idea that the heat escapes when you open the window/s is not exactly correct. It does to some extent, but is trapped above the window height. A vent or vents along the ceiling helps a lot.

If you insist on metal, then drop the metal floor idea. Use metal for bracing/support, but use 3/4" marine plywood for flooring. Water doesn't get on the bottom much at all. Mine looks like new after 6 years. The wood is much quieter.

You mentioned "legs 4" off the ground". If I understand that right, the blind will be 4" off the ground. I wouldn't like that. Good place for a snake to live.

Metal blinds are heavy. I'm fixin' to move it again and I dread it. I'll never have another one.

I like my 4 x 6's and 5 x 7's in plywwod. I run by and spray or roll them with paint every so often. They have lasted well....and at a much lower cost. Problem is, a lot of guys are lazy and won't keep them painted and sealed properly.

I hope these thoughts help with your decisions.

i can make the legs 6"-12" off the ground...that isn't an issue.

as far as vents are concerned, If I can incorporate one into the top of one, I will.

I've not yet decided whether a 4x6 or a 5x5 blind is the way to go.....I'm gonna try to keep the retail price around $1000

A 7' tall blind is not rediculous when your 6'5" and over 50 and have stand up and stretch your back every so often so you can walk after the hunt.

Patience is the key

My blind is 7 feet tall on the front and 6' 6" on the back. Any shorter and id bump my head. If you can keep the price around $1,000 for the platform and blind I'm a buyer.

If a guy wants a 7' blind then it will be custom built.

There are about as many guys 6'5 as there are 5'5, and I don't get any special treatment

5' X 5' minimum. A funnel with a piece of garden hose running into the ground so you can pee.

What about insulation to devert sun heat on the metal during hot weather and hold in heat during cold weather?

Vents - You put them on a side wall at the top, about 5 bucks each. Makes a huge difference.

Even though the leg room is a little unforgiving, I like 4 x 6 because it is easier for two to set it. I wouldn't set a 5 x 5 with another adult. The 4 x 6 lets me introduce and promote hunting to grandchildren, nephews and nieces more comfortably.

I spend a lot of time setting up all our hunting stands and I have spent 100 of hours in a stand alone and with other hunters.
The first thing I recommend is making the floor out of a material that is quiet, allowing the chairs to move with out making a lot of noise. Thick carpet sucks. Use short piled commercial carpet or as an upgrade use rubber. is quietest of all and easy to sweep out.
Second windows that raise up and not slide sideways as the sideways appproach only lets you use 1/2 the window.
Next and maybe most important the shelves need to be just below the window so the shooter can use a sand bag to rest his/her gun comfortably and making them much more accurate.
Shelves 8-10" below are window dressing in my opinion.

Saw some custom made blinds in south texas, they had carpet on them every where but the roof on the inside; they carpeted the sheets of plywood for the sides before nailing/screwing it to the studs of the wall. Made for sound and insulation help!

On a 4x4, one of the best we've built had one complete side as a door, and helped with costs and with disabled or big men!

The Hunted has the best windows for the money and he's on here already.

Make sure that the door will never squeak. I am so sick of my doors getting stuck to the floor because it is crooked, popping out of place when i open it or squeaking. also a rubber liner that at the bottom of the window would be nice for a gun rest. lets see, what else, how bout a window that doesn't jam. that would be nice..... i need some new blinds now that i think about it.

4x6, windows from The Hunted, door on the 6' side, quiet floor, square 1.5" minimum stubs angled for feet to easily add legs. Eventually, sell the various length legs/braces & even stairs as an add on kit.

I have a Texas Hunter 4x4. The metal roof flexes & makes a terrible racket in high winds. I had to force pieces of folded up carpet cut from the floor between roof & the brace to quiet it down. A couple of extra braces, maybe siliconed to the metal to prevent roof flex in high winds might be a good idea.
