Yah its always the taxi, never the way it was taken care of before he got it. Actually i never laid the blame either way, just offered my opinion from personal experience. Hunters drag something into a shop smelling like road kill, both nostrils full of fly eggs, eggs in the eye lids, and want me to do something with it, sure pass the shovel, Ill bury it. I just think if the guy is gona keep doing Taxidermy work, he should be mentored rather than ridiculed. My first deer looked just like that, the second one looked better, then i got straightened out by someone who chose to help me, rather than join the jackals in kicking me while i was down. Sk short enough for ya?

I agree with you skinner completely but a few with slippage shame onhunter but nearly every one and several that had been in freezers within 2 hrs of harvest and still getting slippage, shame on taxi. Could be problems with pickle and neut not properly done when they are consistantly looking the same way.Skinner again all taxidermist should help others. There are more than enough hunters getting mounts done to keep every taxi busier than they probably really want to be in the state of Texas

my dads cape was taken directly to the processor within 3 hours of killing it, from the processor it was directly to the taxi. Mine on the other hand was rotted and i knew it when i dropped it off, i bought a new cape for $100, the antlers were just messed up. Also let this be a lesson for everyone.... Cheap work is cheap work, it started off as the cheapest mount to date I would have done, but it looks like it is going to be by far the most expensive and biggest headache ever. I just posted pictures of the work i recieved, i feel that people are entitled to be informed about a big decision they are going to make.

Short answer. Not the hunters fault. I had the deer caped at Syracuse. It was taken there within three hours of shooting it. It was taken right from Syracuse to the taxi. The taxi that did the mount wasn't the taxi I gave it to.I heard the the guy who mounted it is no longer working for the company. Just heresay. I guess my pictures didn't show the stiches that are sticking out of the chin area. I must have done something there. There is a white substance all over the rack also. I must have done that too. I am not sure if you looked at all the postings in this subject but my son and I are not the only ones with these problems from the same taxi. Now even if we did give the taxi a bad cape, you really got to be sorry and mount it. Any pro wouldn't mount a bad cape. Now this is only speculation, because I am not a taxi but it is like a tile man laying down broken tiles because he got them like that from the store. Obviously it is a lesson learned for my son and I. We were just trying to stop someone from going through the same.

Your right, i cant think of a single pro that would mount a bad cape, leave mud smeared on antlers, sew up an accidental cut made while fleshing the face with anything larger than dental floss, not use enough mud to properly rebuild the eye brows, not flesh the eyes enough to keep them from shrinking and pulling out, not push t-pins up inside the lips to insure they never pull out, not fix the broken skull plate, a "PRO" would have done none of that. This dude wasnt a pro, so dont try and compare his work to one. He is a begginer trying to get his foot in the door, and was the cheapest guy in town. Your right, lesson learned, sounds like you got er figured out. Its almost hunting season and alot of taxidermists are wrapping up from last season and have capes in the freezer for sale. I would get it remounted with a new cape, and pay for a good one. Call around and ask them if you would get a discount since you are bringing them everything they need but a cape. You bring the form, and eyes, and possibly offer to remove the old cape from the form, and remove the antlers before delivering it. No promises, but you may get away cheaper. Otherwise you will never be able to look at these deer without getting a bad taste in your mouth. You should be able to look at it and remember the hunt, not a bad decision. Skinner

if it was done properly you shouldnt be able to get a hide off and eyes out without damaging the form.
I have never bought capes from ebay but if you want a good quality cape from someone reputable and you dont want a long haired canadian deer you will pay up to 200 for a cape on taxidermy.net

If you have a good taxidermist that keeps extra capes around you dont have too pay near that much.

I am the one that mounted these deer. All i can say is that this is not a reflection of any product that texas whitetail connection will put out. i am the one that did these not them, any negitive comments toward anyone but me are unecessary. i except the full responsibility for the final turnout.

I hope you didnt charge him for the mounts, if you did the right thing to do would be a complete refund!

Ya a full refund would have been the right thing to do. I ended up Paying only $150 out of the $250. DMC's boss and owner of TWC stated I needed to pay for the materials. My dad on the other hand was charged the full price($275?) DMC cannot take all the blame, ya he obviously did not know what he was doing, but the owner of the company allowed him to work under the companies name and under the illusion he knew what he was doing. Like I said before, I believe everyone should stay clear of the whole company.

no question about that there is no excuse for taking a penny for work like that the material should be no charge as well I am not sure I wouldn't contact an attorney just to cause them a little of the grief they caused you
