Used to hunt black powder season, but haven't in years.

Seems like it would be sorta fun. What exactly qualifies a hunt as a "vintage" hunt?

Well ya can't get much more vintage than a spot and stalk with a recurve. Vintage in my mind would be no blinds, no feeders and definitly no glass. The horseback hunt I talked about in an earlier thread was about a vintage as it got, just me the horse, a lever action Winchester and 16 square miles of ranch.

Too much work and places the odds in favor of the animal. Also sounds like a lot of walking and then how do you get the animal to the processing plant?

Would love to do it old school, in the northern hill country around brady or san saba, or up around sonora/junction. just a horse/on foot hunt, a fixed blade skinner and a lever gun Hunt would just be a deer hunt, not looking for any specific trophy, just hunting for some stew meat
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Txtrophy85 Vintage hunting has put the fun back into hunting for me . At this point in my life as a hunter it's how I do it .The simple pleasure of huntin like it was done in the past without so much tech. advantage. Not that there is anything wrong with modern type weapon hunting,I't just got old hat. Range um shoot em Haul em in,That became work. Now I have to get in the bushes with them .....Dusty.

You go out in a 4 to 6 man group with horses and a chuckwagon and hunt the back end of the ranch.

Nice buck and good shootin' there Raw! I have always thought about trying out some vintage black powder hunting, but have never dreamed of going down recurve road.
I do hear what you're saying though. This might be something to add to my bucket list.
I took my very first deer just last year at the young age of 54. Some friends invited me and I was just intrigued enough to accept their invitation. I was instantly hooked, which I am sure they knew I would be. Now I am just trying to learn as much as I can before next season.

Man I would really like to do that. I just never have taken the time. I have several guns I would like to to take out. What I really want to do is Kill a buffalo with my Sharps. Now that would be cool.
