A hog is nothing more than a bullet receptacle.

Get good quality equipment. The bitterness of poor quality is remembered long after the sweetness of low price has faded from memory.

I have both PVS 7 / PVS 14 and thermal. I prefer the thermals as they are not effected by low light, night vision requires some additional lighting.

What are you going to be hunting and at what distance? I assume hogs at less than 100 yards....

I've played with the Pulsar N550 and it seems ok out to about 75 yards, maybe 100. Best value.

Whatever you do don't go out at night with NV optics you can't afford because then you will never be happy with what you eventually end up with.

Bombay, you didn't state your budget, intended firearm, distances you plan to use it, etc., but without going bottom of the barrel, the best bang for your reasonable budget buck is a Pulsar N550 (~$1300). The new N750 will be generally available soon and will cost $2000-2400 (prices seem to vary depending on where you read) and as Bennybone's tests on the Hog forum indicate, is a nice improvement.

You should be able to get at least 200 out of a Pulsar N550 with the onboard illuminator, and much further with an external illuminator such as a TNVC Torch Pro.

Sorry I didn't put other details. I'm thinking hogs out to 100 yards right now. Don't really have a budget yet...just testing the water.

Talk to Tyler @ thermaloutfitters.com. He rents thermal and night vision scopes, and rental costs go towards purchase. I rented a pulsar from him for our high school boys hog hunting trip. He went above and beyond expectations. Great guy to deal with and I would happily use him again.

That pulsar n550 seems to be a good entry level NV.

Love my n550 with homebuilt external power pack I can run a whole weekend on a 12v portable gel battery.

Moonlight can see 200+yards only using built in IR I can get 100 yrds easily.

Took a little getting used to watching the screen, nice to shoot day and night with the same scope and rifle combo
