I need a template to write a, what I would call, "Letter of Authority." Basically I'll be out of town and my best friend (ranch hand - for all intents and purposes in this case) will be taking care of my ranch while I'm on vacation.

We're in a bit of a legal battle with the neighbors who are unpredicatabe and I want my buddy to be able to essentially act as me while I'm away. I thought that a semi-official letter for him to hold on to would be good in case the law gets involved and are questioning what authority he has on my property.

Any ideas on some basic templates I might use? Thanks so much for the help I REALLY appreciate it.

Just write a letter made out "To Whom it May Concern"

State the date of the arrangement (both effective and termination)

State his unrestricted right to occupy the premises

State his right to conduct general business as it relates to the management and maintenance of the ranch in your absence. You may want to specifically note that he does NOT have the right to enter into any sort of agreement (written or otherwise) with an outside party on your behalf or on behalf of the property.

List your contact information including phone number in the event of any questions or issues.

Sign the document and have it notarized (may cost you $10)

Give him a copy of your driver's license to verify the signature matches.

Hope that helps.

Very helpful, thank you for the reply. I'll get to work on it.

I'll take care of it for you. I'll set up a bunker on the fence line and I can gaurantee no body will make it across it the kill zone. Now it might scare 'em a little, but they wont come back for seconds. No charge.
