Use a 5 foot piece of 4" PVC, (1) 90 degree elbow and (1) 45 degree elbow, put an adapter and plug on top of it to be able to refill it. All for under $30.00. Drill a couple of holes in the bottom for rain water to drain. Just fill it and strap it to a tree or post and you're in business. I was given the idea from a friend of mine in Crowell.

The hogs would destroy that in an hour where I do my hunts. good idea if you don't have a hog problem!

I'll be using the metal plumbers strap with screws to mount it to a tree or post so they can't pull it down and drag it off. They may chew the end a little but hopefully they won't eat it up to much.I'll put 'em out in a couple of days so I'll know for sure within a month at least. They haven't destroyed my pig pipe and it's been out for a year or better, made from the same PVC.

If you screw all the sections together, the hogs won't tear it up as fast. I do something similar and attach it to trees or two t posts with plumber's tape and they last a while. Just make sure to get the spout off the ground to at least challenge the pigs a bit. You can also invest a little more $$ and use 6 inch with a reducer. It will hold quite a bit more.
Having said that, shot placement is key and there is only one level of dead. Us east Texans can't afford turquoise and elk ivories for jewelry. So we use hog tushes and coon peckers.

We built 2 of those, after they got ton up a couple of times, we ended up turning them into pig pipes.

I make some similar to that but I drill a hole in the cap and install an eye bolt to hang it from a limb. The deer can eat out of it but the pigs can't get a hold on it to tear it up that way.
edited to add: I've had mine hanging up for about four years now and they're still in one piece. Each one holds a little more than 50 lbs of corn.

We used those for years. Instead of a "j" we used a 45 degree "y" fitting to dispense corn, just cap off the bottom. Actually we still use a couple of them in remote locations at the ranch. Hang them so they swing freely from a good sturdy branch and use cable instead of rope, they'll be fine. Kind of like a modified "pig pipe".

One thing my dad came up with that is a modification of this idea is to take a feeder drum and drill a hole in the bottom of it that a pvc pipe this size fits into. Then do the 90 degree and 45 degree turns for the spout. To hang it, we cemented a 4x4 post in the ground and mounted a bracket on the back of the feeder so it sort of just hangs on the top of that post. Holds a ton more corn, hogs can't get to it, and the deer love it. Put it on a secluded heavily used trail and you won't believe the number of bucks that will hit that thing.

I like these ideas - but how do you keep rain from getting into the feeder opening and clogging up...?
How high from the ground is too hight for hogs but low enough for deer...
thanks

The opening is large enough it won't clog.

I like that with the drum on top. Thinking a PVC toilet flange would work great bolted to the bottom of a drum with the feeder tube mounted to the flange hanging down.

How high from the ground is too hight for hogs but low enough for deer... I drilled a bunch of small holes in the bottom cap to drain off the rain water, which has worked pretty good. As far as height goes, I haven't noticed that they are particular. We have hogs standing on their back legs or on other pigs in some pictures, but at least 30 inches off the ground is a decent place to start.

I like the set up with the barrel. Won't have to fill it near as often. I may add that later. Thanks.
