I got my first shotgun when I was 11 or 12 and have been shooting since then, I am now 31. I wear plugs at the range 100% of the time, but have only worn them while hunting once. Last year during teal season I was in a blind with 5 guys and it was just too loud to handle, and that was the only hunting experiance i have had with plugs.

I seem to have a permanent ring in my ears, so maybe I should try and wear them more often.

Attention rickym, this is not a troll post, just a good hearted fun type of post

This is a great question. I didn't wear plugs or muffs when I first started hunting, but in the last couple years have gotten better about it.

My question is for those of you who wear muffs. Do you also wear eye glasses(normal prescrip, not safety)? If so, do the muffs press down too much on the glasses after a while? What brand do you have/like?

I wear plugs when I shoot at the range or hunt and I have taught my son to wear them as well. I have been shooting for 45 + years, never use to wear plugs. Today I have ringing in one ear and I have a hard time hearing in both. My older brother has the same problem. We both learned to shoot early of courase back then no one wore plugs. If you want to be able to hear your grandbaby call you grandpa you should be wearing some kind of hearing protection when ever you shoot a gun. It only take one time to damage your hearing for ever ! I will be buying my first set of electronic muffs this year. Not so much to protect my hearing but to allow me to hear what I have been missing when I sit in my stand.

If you are going to wear just one ear plug, you should wear it in your left ear (if you are right handed). Since this ear is the closest to the gun. My ear doctor told me that the majority of people who go see him who hunt have more hearing loss in their left ear.

I wear eyeglasses, and I don't have that problem; the problem I do have is that I start to sweat and everything gets slippery--earmuffs, glasses, my grip on the gun. Oddly enough, the earmuffs actually help keep my glasses from slipping too much.

I wear hearing aids in both ears. Recertified for CHL Saturday and turned them off for the shooting. I don't wear them when hunting but guess I should. Been hunting and shooting for 5o+ years but didn't wear hearing protection till I started shooting skeet in my mid twenties. I should have started earlier but nobody thought about hearing loss back in those days.

I never worn hearing protection unless I was at a function where a lot of shooting was going on. NOW I DON'T NEED HEARING PROTECTION if you get my drift. I have been hunting & shooting for 50+ years. If I go to the range to sight a gun in I put on the best protection I can have, sometimes plugs in addition to muffs. I can not afford to lose anymore hearing. I seldom wear protection while deer hunting because normally it is a one shot deal hit or miss. Any other time where multiple shots are happening, I will have ear protection on. Loss of hearing is a gradual event and by the time you accept the fact you have a loss, it is too late. Most friends, family members, co-workers and such will know you have a loss before you do. PUT ON THE HEARING PROTECTION FOR YOUR SAKE. It is great to hear a squirrel cutting a pine cone or a deer walking thru the woods coming at you, ducks wings whistling over the decoys and that is something I can not do with out my hearing aids. All because I failed to wear ear protection!!!!

I wondered if anyone else did though.

I have yet to hunt from a box blind and actually pull the trigger. Every time I have shot something, it's been from the ground in the open or from a tree stand. In this case, the adrenaline rush makes it so I almost don't even hear the shot...

I have this feeling that if I pulled the trigger while in a box blind without hearing protection, I'd be deaf for an hour afterwards tho...

TxP

Ear plugs and wash cloths, I am excited to see what is next.

Me ear damage is more from turbine engines than shooting. Even with ear muffs on sometimes they are loud enough to hurt my ears. I have even put plugs in and muffs on top, but sometimes when working near the exhaust it still isn't enough. I think at that point the vibrations are actually traveling through your skull.

Are you saying that you're hollow-headed, helo? Say it ain't so!

But the effects of that kind of noise on the inner ear over extended periods (before a set time of healing has occurred) can really do some damage. It's not the "noise" per se, but the vibrations on the hair cells that causes the loss of hearing.

I'm 28 years old, been shooting and hunting since I was 13. At the range, mulitpable shots and when I can in the field I wear plugs (the triple flange kind). Walking through the brush after hogs, racoons, etc I don't wear them simple because I want to be able to hear them breaking branches and stuff.

I wear them on the range and while dove hunting.

Not for Deer as I want to hear all the noises in the woods.

Heck yeah, I'll be the first to admit my head is hollow.
