I bought my first semi auto this year... Im not going back to a pump.
From skeet to killing birds, it is just all around better.

We can only use shotguns for deer here in Iowa and i wouldn't trade my 870 pump for anything. I have seen way to many semi auto's freeze and jam up during our cold deer seasons. I have killed a ton of deer, turkeys, pheasants and even a bear with my pump and its worth its weight in gold to me!!

Shoot both pump and semi! Most fun gun I ever had though was an FIE 20ga side by side. Was a pretty good shot with it too.
My 1100 and my trigger finger got together and decided they'd just shoot 3 times no matter what. We had to have a meeting about just who was in charge of the discharge!

Both. I hunt birds and clays with over under but often change up to semi for pheasants in SD. pumps and o/u kick much harder than a semi. I hunt deer in IL with a pump gun and slugs. Pump gun might be best for home defense and duck blind. If I was carrying gun through swamps no question it would be a pump.

You fellows who think an auto is faster than a pump have never seen someone who knows how to operate one shoot..I remember hearing duck and goose hunters shoot when I was a kid down by Liberty and sometimes the Mod 12 shooters would sound like one long shot..I had a factory demo gun made by SKB which I sold to Jim Harris of WOAI Radio fame that was the fastest slickest pump I've ever seen or handled..and it came apart w/the forend bolt.. Most shooters who kill a lot of game rarely worry about this subject..birds don't fly that fast..DD

Thats why I use my autoloader when I hunt birds or shoot clays. But I use my 870 when I am rabit hunting or in nasty weather so I don't scratch up my nice shotgun.

Most shooters who kill a lot of game rarely worry about this subject..birds don't fly that fast..DD One of the guys that shoots with us uses an old Benelli that's seen a lot of rough days in the field. But he's got it broken in so well, and he's so used to it that his timing on doubles isn't any different than those of us that shoot O/Us. Save for the rare short-stroke, he runs through a game of skeet without any trouble at all. Really, you are best with what you're familiar with. Don't go out and buy a new semi because all of the guys you hunt with have them. Get good with your pump and laugh when you shoot more birds.

Semis are great, but I prefer the pump for reliability. They can take a beating & keep on going. Semis have more moving parts which equals more risk of malfunction.

Semi's reliability comes to question because most people do not maintain them proplerly. You will not have that problem with a pump during crunch time..
