NIKON is good glass their CS/Warranty department usually doesn't get much praise. As far as the Leupold goes it would depend on which model you are looking at.

If you want a very good scope, one w/out any problems get a Leupold in Mark III or Mark IV, spend the extra bucks get a 3X10X50 or larger for deer at reasonable ranges..and you'll have a good late evening pc of glass also..If you want a long range varmit or target scope..look at the 8.5x25x50 Ill, w/rangefinding
Rect. Mark IV..and Mil Dots..I have one on a Sako TRG that is outstanding..I can see my bullet holes at a 300 yd target I shoot
on a 55 gal drum at the ranch & I'm 69 yrs.old..I had a 3x10 on a
Ruger No. 1 338 Win mag I gave my nephew who was in Ak. and a former Seal Sniper..he was shooting 700 yds w/it without issue..DD

I have that monarch on a 223 tikka and the 40mm version of that leupold on my 30-06.

The only thing I don't like about the Monarch is the reticle selection. Of the 2, I think I would slightly favor my Leupold because it has the B&C reticle. Shooting the 165gr hornady superformance, i was able to hit a 12oz coke can at 271yds 3 out of 4 times. And all I did was zero @ 200yds just like the reticle said I should.

Although I have both Leupold (4.5x14) and Nikon (4.5x 14), I prefer the Nikon because of the spot on software and BDC for improved accuracy.

If you're looking through a Monarch and a VX-III, you're probably looking through the exact same glass.

Pick the scope that you feel has the best features and reticle for your needs. I think you'll be more than pleased with either.

4.5-14 is going to be better for hunting
6-24 is going to be better for target

trying to find an animal at 30 yards with 6X might take too long

I have a 6-20X44 weaver on my target gun and it is magic at 100-200 yards but it would be a hindrance trying to pick off a moving animal at close range.

Very similar glass. Theleupold has a horrible field of view but great eye relief. Their customers service is 2nd to non thought. Nikon has a slightly better field of veiw but also slightly worse eye relief. If you have to send a nikon scope back for repairs be prepaird for a long wait and frusterating results. IMO there are way better options for the price with vortex, minox and or spend a little more and get the zeiss conquest. Good luck with which ever one you deciede on.

I have the 4.5 x14 x50 leupy......I will never buy another scope less than 50, love it!
I don't take the binocs anymore because the scope is so good in that size. You can see so much more with a big scope.

I would agree, I bought 2 of them when they came out and thought they were the bee’s knees.
I hate them now. The reticule is too cluttered.

My new favorite scope is the LEUPOLD VXR patrol.

X4 objective research/physics shows little upside to 50mm and up objectives in the vast majority of hunting applications.

44 is the largest objective scope I own, never saw a reason for larger or to go to higher mounts.

I have bought and own several Nikon Monarchs and have always had buyers remorse. I dont know why I always tell myself that this one will be better than the last. Their field of view, eye relief, and clarity are horrible.

In my opinion Leupolds are far far better quality. I'd take a VX-1 over a piece of junk Monarch any day.

I have heard that a lot. I place great significance on those who buy a product yet are willing to honestly admit they are not pleased with it. That tells me something as most will defend/justify/rationalize their purchases at all costs. When I see a few people willing to share bad reviews on the same product I run the other way. That's why I am a Leupold man.

Im the second owner of a Rem 700 CDL in .270 topped with an VX3. Shot after shot, it never loses its zero. Ever. Clear as can be too. Next rifle I buy will definitely have another Leupold on it.
