Looking to buy a scope for my AR-15 that i can do quick point and shoot for hogs but also shoot up to 200+ yards. I came across the 3-9X42 Ultimate AR-15 Scope with red dot. Would you recommend it? Pros and Cons?

The only reason i work, is so that i could afford to hunt.

I have this scope in 4-12 and absolutely love it. The 2-7 will give you a great field of view for close up pigs and still let you get out to 200 yds on game.

If it's a fine red dot, then it would do ok. The problem with most red dots is they cover anywhere from 4 moa (or ~4 inches at 100 yards to 8 moa (~8" at 100 yards). They cover up a lot space on the target, whoch makes them less precise. There are several scope mfg that make a BDC type reticle. I have been using the Burris 1-4 XTR 5.56 reticle with good results. They often do not line up exactly to the lines inside the scope. But once you know where your hold is at certain distances, you can easily make repeatable hits.

The VX-R has 8 different intensity levels and a very fine dot. My wife used it at last light a few weeks ago to put two pigs down right behind the ear. She is really killing all my book reading/beer drinking time with this cleaning of animals buisness. I would suggest this scope to anyboy who is considering hunting in low light. Especially black pigs in a dark background.
