i am hunting a small property near hondo for the third year. the first year i swa at least one deer every time i was in the stand inlcuding several decent bucks. we took a buck and a doe. last year we saw only two bucks all season. this week i hunted for two days and saw zero deer, only hogs. i am seeing deer dropping but no other sign. other hunters in the area are not seeing much either. can anyone think of a reason for this drastic decline? i am seriously considering pulling out of the property if something doesn't change soon.

Deer definitely hate aggies... lol..

Deer movement was non-existent in our area in north Texas this past weekend as well so deer are probably there, just not moving... My buddy on my lease left his stand at 9:30 and visited mother nature at our gate a big buck was bedded down there and of course ran off. They just aren't moving or going to feeders plus it is a full moon. A friend my hunts 3 miles down the road and they did not see anything move. I mean like 2 deer in 4 hunts for one of them and like 1 or 2 deer in the whole weekend for the others. They normally see a ton more than that. Their neighbors saw nothing either and normally see quite a bit.

It's obviously a regional or deer population thing. We have been seeing LOTS of deer since bow season opened. Hunting buddy saw 25-30 on his hill top Saturday PM. I saw 16 Saturday AM.

My dad just bought 240 acres this year in Young county. Last year we were leasing 1000 acres in Stephens county and almost always saw deer. However, this year since opening weekend I have seen less than ten deer. Until yesterday. From my stand I can see 5 other blinds on three other properties along with the traffic, four wheelers, camp fires etc. I decided to stay and hunt yesterday afternoon in stead of making the immediate run home after the morning hunt. At four I had 2 nice bucks under the feeder and saw over 20 more deer after that. I think there is something to all the extra pressure put on these deer on the weekend.

That;s why I don't hunt the weekends, to much pressure. See lot more deer during the week. I am headed out in the morning along with the cooler weather, sure hope they are moving more.

I'm also near Hondo (Medina County) and we are seeing MUCH fewer deer. Me and my friend didn't see a dang thing all weekend.

One of our other guys on the lease saw 3 Bucks and a doe this past weekend, and another guy saw 3 bucks together and he shot the biggest of the 3...an 8-point which was still a little small and very young.

It hasn't started out well, but it has been SO SO SO HOT outside I'm not really surprised. In a few weeks when it really cools off I expect we'll see more. Right now there is no need for the deer to be moving much. There is plenty of food all over the ground. A good freeze should fix this for us and you should really start to see more movement.
