Does anyone have any advice about where to go? What to plan for? Bird numbers? Any help would be appreciated.

Chase: Bird numbers are just plain bad. I suggest to save that trip until next season. But if you just gotta go please let us know how you do and send the Oxman a picture.

Yeah it wouldnt be until next season. I appreciate the suggestion poisonivie but I'm looking to go it alone. Don't have the extra funds for an outfitter. Thinking about trying the Big Bend parks.

Its on my "to do list". Its one of those hunts you do for the experience, not limits.

It does not matter where you go. Just go. Go someplace you have always wanted to go. Do your research, books, phone calls, emails, magazine articles, wildlife department sites, blogs, this forum, and friends. When you get there, talk to the locals, visit the nearby bar, the breakfast joint, don't dress like a fancy pants, make friends, and ask questions. Run down every game warden you see and pick his brain. Work to find the birds, but at the same time, focus on the adventure rather than "the limit". As for the big bend area. Make sure you have good dog boots and have extras. I recomend a chest protector too. Take a well equiped dog first aid kit. There is no phone service and your far from anything. Have the right boots, or chaps, or brush pants for yourself too. It's rocky and rough. Everything sticks, punctures, scratches, cuts, stings, or bites.
