Looking for a new deer rifle, cant decide on what caliber i want go with my choices ive narrowed it down to are 7-08,308, 25-06. What do yall think im wanting a flat shooting gun out to 300yds. Im assuming recoil on all 3 is about the same but i have not shot a 7-08 or 25-06, so give me some opinions!!

I mostly deer hunt with a 30-06 but used a new 25-06 this year and really like it! Flatter shooting and less recoil. I have also heard a lot of good things about the 7mm-08 but never shot one. If just hunting in Texas I would choose one of those. The 25-06 is a long action and the 7-08 a short action so you could get a lighter weight gun in the 7-08 if you carry a lot. I also have a lightweight .308 which is great to carry compared to the 30-06.

7-08/25-06/308 are all good calibers, that being said I would choose the 270 smile

308 would be my choice. I shot a 25-06 this year, and it seems like you get all the recoil of a 30-06, but with a smaller round. it did drop the deer i was shooting at in his tracks however. But i always shoot neck, so that usually happens.

I would go with the short action in either caliber.

Been shooting and hunting with a 7mm-08 for 30 years, though I have tried a lot of other calibers none have proven any better then it IMO.

25:06. I have that and a 257 Weatherby plus 25 WSSM. I love the 25 Cal's. I have shot most every Texas Exotic, hog, pronghorn and mule deer with one. Flat shooting and no recoil. The 257 has the most recoil. my daughters have been shooting deer/exotics with the 25:06 since they were 10-11

7mm08. I think everyone should have one. Get bullet selection, easy on the shoulder, and mine after some work will shoot subMOA all day long.

They aren't even close on felt recoil, the 25-06 is a pleasure to shot in the same weight rifles.
