Also I will honestly say the Tundra is much better built with better brakes, chasis and body structure.

Maintenance on the Tundra is next to nothing!

When I got 50,000mi on my Tundra I called the dealership to ask them about the service cost & interval for the fuel filter, Transmission fluid and filter, radiator fluid ....ECT and was suprised to hear-

"Sir the fuel filter is good for at least 100,000mi unless you get it contaminated with diesel or water....Also the rear end lube, trans fluid/filter, radiator fluid should all be good to 100,000mi or 5 years which ever comes first! You do need to have your brake fluid flushed and check the airfilter - Thats IT!

That sounds about normal maintenance wise to me

Thats bullchit and you know it. Having fished many a bass tournaments all over Texas and talking to the guys that have the same truck as me and some of the ones that have sold their Tundras and bought a F-150 w/ eco boost or even GM's they are getting significantly better mileage than they got in their Tundras. I know guys that are getting 13-15 towing their bass boats and not little ones, with an F-150 w/ Eco or GM (not the big motors). 8-10MPG is the norm towing a bass boat with a 4wd Tundra, and for gods sake Bass boats dont weigh anything and they are as streamlined as it gets. I wish I still had my 2001 Dodge 2500 4x4 with a Cummins and a 6spd standard that got 21-23 on the highway and 18 pulling a boat. The sad part is that the new diesels dont get that kind of mileage with the exception of a few that claim it, so buying a diesel is an even more costly measure with less return ,unless you must tow something heavy regularly. There were rumors of changes to the valves and direct injection fuel systems that might improve on the fuel consumption of the Tundras and they did nothing, its a big fail as far as I am concerned!

Ive towed boats, trailers and a 1,000lbs of CAT parts with SEVERAL different 4x4 Tundras(company trucks) and no matter what they still got 15mpg under heavy load.

Not for gas engines - My F150 service intervals were
Fuel filter and Trans fluid and filter ever 30,000mi
Radiator fluid every 40,000mi
They said 100,000 on the plugs but if you didnt put new plugs in it every 30-40,000mi the mileage dropped off quick

Nothing against the yotas, they are hell for stought, but im gonna fly the BS flag all over that. There are people all over who cant get 15 out of them empty and you get it pulling boats and catapilar parts? and really only a thousand pounds of catapilar parts dont sound like much. bs

Well I have never owned a ford. Chevy says 100,000k on trans, differential, coolant, and plugs, 50,000 on air filter, not sure on fuel filter. I never have or probably ever will change rear end lube unless it leaks dry or gets full of water.

I am going to say this with all due respect..and I mean with all due respect.....that statement above is complete BULLCHIT!

I had an 07 double cab 4x4 and now I have an 10 Crewmax 4x4, three of my co-workers have a combination of double cabs and crewmax's with 5.7's and I have at least another 1/2 dozen buddies that have Tundras that have 4x4's with 5.7's there is no way in hell you are gonna tow anything other than a lawnmower on a 200lb trailer at less than 70 mph and get 15 mpg out of a 4x4 Tundra with a 5.7L. Don't try and feed me bullchit with false internet testimonials about Tundra fuel mileage. My best friend is the Service manager at a large Toyota Dealership and he has to feed new Tundra customers full of chit daily to appease their fuel mileage concerns. They are good trucks......but they get the worst fuel mileage in their class.

I don't tow very often with my 07 Tundra, so I can't comment on mileage while towing. I will say that I have never ever seen mileage as low as 15 on my trip computer while driving at any speed. Now maybe if I had a 4x4 the mileage would be lower, and I think I would expect it to be.

I did check the window paperwork for mileage when I drove all the trucks before I decided on the Toyota, but mileage was not a deal killer as long as they were all in the same ballpark on gas usage. I bought the Toyota because I liked it best and I knew from previous experience that it would likely never break. And so far, my thinking has proved to be correct.

It has always amazed me how folks get so caught in arguments about car and truck makers. Ya got ya Ford camp and ya Chevy camp and on and on. Most of you guys already have your minds made up and have had since you were almost old enough to get your first car or truck. I grew up with Ford trucks and Oldmobile cars, fully knowing that was the best a fella could get, cause that's what my Daddy said. And I felt that way till I carpooled with a neighber in their Toyota Celica. Compared to my Old Cutlass, that Toyota was put together like a Bently. I was absolutely stunned at the quality. I then gave the Olds to the oldest daughter and got myself a Toyota. Then I got a company car (several of them) made by GM and I got one more reminder of what crap GM was making. Now I do my research and believe in Consumer Reports. Lately I've been tempted to get a Ford Explorer for the wife. Very nice looking vehicle, but I'll wait till Consumer Reports says that it's OK to spend $30k on it.

Buy what you want. I do.

Hmmmm....maybe the pro fishermen I know with Tundras must be able to drive and tow better than the ones you talk to. Local friend a pro, Alton Jones, is and has been perfectly pleased with the Tundras he's had the past 5 years. He previously used Chevy Suburbans and says he won't go back to them. He does have one small problem....his little black Porche Carrera doesn't come with a trailer hitch!

I dont think anyone was talking bad about the power towing ability or durability of the tundra, just that there isnt a snowballs chance in hell that he is getting 15+ mpg's while towing "heavy loads"

Do you really think that Alton Jones gives a chit what a gallon of gas cost? Shoot I'd be surprised if he even pays for the truck and if he does I assure the truck is a complete write off as is every gallon of gas he uses. Not the same as the guys that I know that fish on their own dime and work regular jobs during the week. Never said it didn't tow well just said that the entire range of driving (empty and loaded) the fuel mileage really does suck. We took a family road trip a while back with friends and they were in their Z71 suburban and we were in my Tundra and he averaged approx. 4.5 mpg better mileage than I did for the whole trip, even with two more kids, dog and half their house in that thing. And I hate GM's!

My uncle drives a Tundra and it doesn't get 15mpg empty on the highway. Fuel milage is an issue with these trucks.

If you like them and want to drive them then go for it. But mpg is not a positive trait for the Tundra.

What also sucks is that my old 96 4 dr 2wd powerstroke gets better mileage most of the time than my 07 FJ 4wd 4.0.

Bring us the little diesels

I love the Tundra. But of course I'm a Toyota guy, for life.

I've got a 2011 Tundra with the 4.6. Pulling a 19 ft double axle glaston runabout I can get 14mpg going 65mph. Not to shabby. On the highway empty I can get up to 18mpg.

The key is to not use cruise. If I use cruise, my mileage does down significantly.

My uncle has the 2011 5.7 and he averages 16-17 empty on the highway.

I've driven CHevy's Fords and Dodges. Always had issues with Fords and Dodges and seldom had issues with Chevys. Never had issues with a Toyota. I could care less what a truck looks like, I want dependability.
