I know this has been long debated, and I probly know what is right, but I'm gonna ask. I havent had a pup in a long while. My last lab was 8 wks old when we got her. We let her holler all she wanted and took her out every 2-3 hrs and right back in. Probly lasted a week tops. Question, my new one is only 6 wks old. Should I be more forgiving or leave her be and let her scream. Wife couldnt stand it last night so she went in pool room and layed on floor next to her, with her in the kennel, and kinds touched her for reassurance. Not so sure this is right.
Good news. Been home two days, no accidents in the house. Of course she gets taken out if she even looks wrong. Left back door open this afternoon and she went outside on her own and pooped. She was definitely told how awesome she was for that.
Question is whether to be more patient for a couple weeks and give in, or just let her holler.

At that age, it might help if you can get a cloth that has her mother's scent on it. I got my GSP at 7 weeks and she did well with an old school clock that "ticked" in the kennel.
Reward her when going into the kennel as it should be her safe place and not a punishment. Don't let her out while crying to reinforce that throwing a fit will not get her rewarded.
One other note, then girlfriend now wife, did the same thing your wife is doing with your dog as she did with hers. 5 years later, it is still a nightly struggle to get that dog in the kennel.

Well, put her down at 9 last night. She was going to sleep in my lap. At midnight,, I still hadnt heard a word, but woke her up anyway to go outside. Put her back in kennel. At 330, I got worried because I still hadnt heard her make a noise. I woke her up again and took outside. This time back in the kennel and half a-- whining for about 20 min. then nothing. Nothing different than the night before so I dont know, but I was so glad to sleep. I reckon we're right on time so far, considering she's only been weaned for 6 days now.
