I am thinking of getting my wife her first pistol. 9mm or 38??

I do not currently have one in either caliber, but I think that is as much as she could accurately handle.

If you were buying one for your wife, what would you look at?

thanks

Does she want a revolver or semi-auto?

If semi-auto - 9mm
Revolver - 38sp or 357

Glock sub compact in 9mm.

Simple to use and works every time.

Depends on how she will be carrying, what she likes, and how comfortable she is.

If she's carrying in a purse - GLOCK IS A NO-NO! Can you say accidental discharge???

For on her person, Glock is fine, as long as she's comfortable without a safety.

If she's new to carrying, a revolver would be my choice to start. Very safe, can be lightweight and very compact.

If she really wants a semi-auto, go with a Ruger LC9

I like the Glock, but the no-safety is an issue for her. I am thinking that a revolver would be the better choice because she has to really want to shoot before anything happens.

H&K P2000SK 9mm. But my wife also really likes the S&W 38 special I got her. She shoots them both really well.

Same difference. A charged and ready-to-go Glock handles no differently from a DA revolver.

I would highly recommend letting her get her hands on some guns and seeing what is most comfortable for her, then when you narrow it down to 2-3 models see if anybody you know has them and would let her shoot them. It generally goes a long way to building confidence and getting women to carry if they are comfortable with their OWN forearm and go through the steps of picking one out that fits them best.

Either could work for her. Do not overlook the Bersa also. Best advice I have for you and her is if there is a range where she could shoot different ones go try them and let her pick the one she likes and shoots the best.
