Went and looked at the Luxus R8 today.
Awesome gun, but the $4300 price tag was a little off putting
Anyone own one? Dealer said they are the best hunting rifle out there, period

I was expecting around $3k honestly. With scope mounts, etc it's gonna be over $5500

They are great rifles, cool action, great safety. But they are way too light and kick like a mule. Also the extra barrels are more expensive than a complete gun.

Not sure as I really haven't done any research on it, but I would think a decent custom bolt action. I think the biggest issue I would have would be settling on what caliber I'd want, based on what I'd be using it for. Got me thinkin' now...

I go back and forth on buying a nice rifle (I like the MG ultra lights but their stocks are fugly) and then I'll have another marginal deer season, kill a deer or two with my cheap rifles, then realize that expensive gun was just a waste of money. Sure does suck being a tightwad.

you can get a custom gun built with wood for less than 5k. I have looked at the blazer and dont really care for them.

I have tested and shot numerous Blaser R8 rifles. They are a very good and accurate rifle. I have seen several of the rifles shoot 1/4 moa groups or better. One of them was a 338 Win Mag shooting a 225 grain Barnes Tipped TSX at top speed. The rifle weighs about 5 lbs, so imagine the amount of recoil! And it still shot that good at 200 yards!
The benefit of this rifle system is the multiple barrels you can purchase with the same receiver (rifle) and the ability to break the rifle down into a small package and return to zero. Once you have the barrel with a scope mounted, you can install a new barrel/caliber in seconds. You can also take the scope and base/rings fully off the barrel, and remount them without any point of impact shift. I didn't believe this until we did it numerous times. Yes the rifle is expensive. But for someone looking for match grade accuracy and a rifle that can fit in a brief-case size rifle case with multiple calibers available, it is a great system. Plus the bolt design is very unique.

The other thing I would take into consideration is I believe a Blaser would hold its value much better than a custom gun. I see custom/semi custom guns marketed all the time and they sell for significantly less than they cost is what I see. A blaser would probably bring more in line with what you have in it.

I've handled one a few times and they are nice. Not for me, but nice-that 5k would pay for the rifle Dee linked and then a hunt or two. I'm too hard on stuff and hunt in too rough conditions to scratch up the purdy stuff. Having said that, they are very accurate and quick handling. The one my friend has is chambered in .300wby I believe plus he has another barrel that I don't remember the caliber. Mainly he got it because it's cool, he rarely hunts! It's topped with a nice Swaro and just sits there waiting to go.. Pity.

You can almost buy a stainless Remington SPS in every caliber for the same money. I'll bet most of them will shoot just as good as the Blaser. Unless you just like buying furniture there are simply better choices. It's easy to add nice wook to anything.
