Nothing wrong with a hog that your 30-06 won't cure.

There is no such thing as overkill unless overpenetration presents some sort of danger. .50 BMG is fine if you can use it safely, though like .338 Lapua and many other calibers, it is rather expensive.

If that's all you have, then you are very well equipped.

I usually use my 243, but I'm taking my 300WM next time. Got more meat in the freezer than we can eat, so I just wanna see the hole it makes!

I'm planning a trip in April to DFW and would like to cap a hog while there . . . but all I got is a lever 30-30, will that do the trick?

Killed several that way. From 20lbs to 175lbs. If you want the meat you should head/neck shoot them to ruin less.

I work hard, drink a little and hunt when I can.

It's better to have too much than not enough!

used 06 for a deer gun. Shot placement is the key.

What is this "overkill" that you speak of?

I dont even think a 20mm vulcan would be overkill...

Take em out , and take em by the dozens

I shoot them with .338 and 450 bushmasters ans sometime 22 mags - 30-06 or any 30 cal should be fine!

Head shots if at all possible. I had one run away with a "perfect" heart shot.

Any 30 caliber rifle is fine for hogs. I've used a .303 British and a .308, both work great. A 30-06 gives plenty of choices for ammo. Any decent bullet from around 125 grains on up will do, no need for premium bullets with hogs. I like 150-180 grain myself, but use what you like as long as it's a hunting bullet (soft-point - no FMJ).

I have two unwritten rules:
1.
2.

I would worry more about scopes and lights for shooting at night
