I've been getting pictures of hogs under my feeder daily between 7:45PM-11:00PM and 2:45AM-6:15AM.

Now that deer season is over, I wanted to get some hog meat.

I put a Hog Kill Light under my feeder, spread additional corn (to supplement the feeder drop) and tossed some Hog Wild around.

We sat in the blind from 6:00 PM until 2:30 AM two nights in a row and saw nothing but a skunk - making "getting skunked" literal.

When I've loaded the feeder all season, what scent I left didn't phase hogs or deer. They showed up as usual.

What can I change to improve my luck next time out?

keep it simple, you dont need to add additional attrachtents. Also keep wind changes in mind. Most nightly shifts blow from the N NW in the winter time.

If you just introduced the hog kill light give them a couple of days to get use to it. They will be there if the corn is on the ground and the wind is right.

My guess is they either winded you or are leery of the light, or both.

If the wind was from the North, that may have been it. It was so slight, it didn't move the weeds. My feeder is North of my blind, but my North facing blind windows were closed.

The light is new. I can only run it when I'm there. Maybe I could rig it to a motion sensor. The feeder is heavily shaded, so I don't know how I'd be able to power the light when I'm not there to change batteries.

This was my first time with hogs as my prime goal. How do you see those suckers at night without a light? In addition to the small Hog Kill Lights at the feeder, I had an XLR-250 on my rifle, but used it very little because I could see well enough from the feeder light.

I do have a FoxPro with various hog calls but didn't use it because of mixed reviews on its effectiveness. Any suggestions?

A boar will circle an area before they go into a feeder. More than likely they got your cent. Move a little farther away from the feeder. If a big boar has been shot at under a light they will get spooked by lights. They learn fast.

Give it time. Ditch the hog wild. BUy a kill light or night vision.

I set my light out and crawl in the stand it don't bother em. I've killed em within thirty minutes of putting it out. Sometimes they just don't show its hunting keep at it you'll catch em there.

dont change anything. Keep the set up the same as it was during deer season.

Hogs are where they're at. Hogs may frequent an area but they're never a sure bet and in my experience aren't locked into a territory as in other animals. Keep going, sooner or later your paths will cross.

Yeah, if they were already coming, then why did you change things around? Also, baits like 'Hog Wild' are a waste of money, as evidenced by your experience. As noted, "Hogs are where they're at." They don't wear watches and have appointment books. I know, I left some for my hogs last year and they didn't use any of them. Every given individual or group has routines and those routines are not set in stone. The last hog I shot had a great routine that was terribly hard to follow that went something like a stacatto sequence of changing numbers of days present alternated by changing number absent mixed up with changing times showing up. It was really frustrating because the it seemed like a 'pattern' of being present, but when I would predict the next event, I didn't get it right for over two weeks. Even on the possibility that he was sensing me (despite playing the wind) I set up for him three times OFF property and awaiting images to show up from my cellular camera and he simply didn't show. I am fairly certain he didn't wind me from over a mile away inside of a cabin, separated by a by FM road, several houses, and a goodly amount of livestock. It just wasn't his schedule.

could be alot of different things.. last year hog's knocked my feeder over three night's in a row.. the last night they did it, went down about midnight with my pistal, was a full moon & moon at 12 o'clock.. hog's had already gone threw.. while sitten in deer stand few days later few stray dogs came up from feeder & food plot, hog sign was scarce for few days, then bout week later some guys with dogs got 1 or 2 hogs.. could be also may take some time for hog's ta get used ta the light's may have ta let em get few free meals let em think it's safe.. been alot of preasure on hogs.. don't give up the ship, it ain't sunk yet..

Hog hunting for me has been very frustrating. I have pigs that are inconsistent about hitting my feeders. I checked my game can last week and hogs had hit my feeder for two weeks straight. I hunted twice that week and they didn't show up.

Hogs can be leery about new scents. If you don't normally put out the sweet stuff then don't put it out when you hunt. Leave it as undisturbed as possible.

the light should have a motion setting on it. unless its an older one....it takes them a while to get use to the light also had a feeder that was gettin hit hard for weeks put the light up and let it run all week without turning it on and they finaly came out the last day...also adding new stuff like hog wild could have alerted them....hogs like things to be repetitive... if one thing happens different they most likely wont come... also id get in the stand earlier...on any givin day they will move the last hour before dark...you wont be able to time it they just do here and there... id drop the feeder light and go with a gun light.... im just not that found of them for here and there use...if you can keep it up all the time then they are good once the pigs get use to them but other than that id figure something else out.

sit from 4:30 to 9 one afternoon and im bettin you will have better luck..

To narrow most of this down-----you stink.

Take the guess work out of it and get a motion sensor. When they show up, u get a buzz and can slip up on them as u please.

I've been having same issue of being there but hogs not showing up after lots of cam pics. I recently put out a Hoginator17 light for them to get used to. Batteries will last for months so you can leave it out and let them get used to it.

If you want hog meat, trap em.

If you are hunting for sport, ditch the feeder lights and xlr250 and keep a look out at area Cabelas bargain caves for a used night vision scope. Some can be had for 900 bucks...

Once you hunt with NV you will realize the advantage of owning the night and wonder why you bothered with the other stuff.

Not only am I being quite, but I also take efforts to minimize my scent. Wash all my clothes in scent free detergent, shower with scent free soap and play the wind. I hunt out of a pop up that I setup next to trees. The properties geography doesn't allow me to setup very far from my feeder(50 yards), so I take every precaution to avoid being busted.

It just seems like I can't keep the pigs coming in daily. This isn't a place I deer hunt, so pigs are welcome.

We were being very quiet. Painfully so. I could hear steps in the woods across the tank but never saw an animal.

I may have smelled bad, because the shower I took when I got home felt better than usual.

I called Elusive Wildlife to see if they had a motion sensor for the Hog Kill Light. All they have is a dusk to dawn sensor.

The Hoginator17 sounds interesting. Their web site says 3-D cell batteries can last up to 6 months. Is that realistic if it is left at the feeder full-time?

I put mine at a baited spot without a feeder so it may have less traffic. What's hard to measure is how many times it comes on over a period of time, based on animal traffic, so I can't speak to 6 months of batt life, except to say I haven't changed batts and it's been a few months.
