Just leased a 100 acres south of Jermyn. Can anyone fill me in on the deer population, size etc. for the area? Had to take a leap of faith on the lease as it had just rained so all the sign was gone. It has good cover and bedding area. I plan to feed year round both corn and protein.
Also, any comments on the hog, coyote populations would be appreciated.

There can be some good deer in that area but they are hunted hard and there are a lot of small places so pressure is high. If you have big neighbors it will help. Usually lots of hogs especially if you have a wet creek. Should be plenty of yotes unless the local ranchers have been shooting or trapping them.

I'm hunting about 10miles N of you just out of Antelope on 350ac. Some open areas but mainly trees & cover. 4 large & 1 small tank and lots of terrain changes. Average shot is about 100-125yds although there are some places where you might go to 200. We do pretty good but we're not horn hunters. Wife & I took a nice buck each and a couple of doe. Everyone saw several bucks and a bunch of doe. Low fence on almost all 4 sides. Shot a few yotes, a couple of bobcats, and an occasional hog. We're feeding corn/bean mix mid-april until late August then just corn to top off. Got a few food plots we plant out in wheat in late Sept. 4 (**) of us hunt it but none of us ever tag out and 2 of us only show up about 3 times a season to hunt. The rest of the time we're just sitting in the blinds taking in mother nature or thinking up things to do while sitting around jawing. **My wife is one of the 4. BTW -

Thanks for the info HnF. It's just my brotehr-in-law and I on the lease and we aren't horn hunters either. Just looking for the outdoors and to fill the freezer with a little deer meat each year. We had to day hunt this year and it just isn't worth it. I had a lease but lost it due to spending the last two seasons in Afghanistan for the Army.
Back now and have high hopes for the property. We plan to get feeders and cameras up in a couple of weeks to get a better idea of what we have.
Thanks agin for the info.

Some tough hunting in that area, small lease tracts with high hunting pressure = nocturnal deer, good luck.

I'm about 5 miles east of the cutoff from Jermyn to Bryson. We have much the same scenario as HnF. We have good luck with food plots when there is enough rain and since feeding protein year round our deer numbers have skyrocketed. We usually hunt two stands at a time being careful of the wind and from bow season to the end of doe/spike we didn't see deer maybe three times. Lots of doe's and spikes (fewer of both after this year). We took 7 deer total and could have taken a lot more. We also both trapped (to sell) and killed several hogs, two of the boars in the 250+ range, one coyote and two bobcats last year. We have several small properties around us (mine is too) but they are not hunted much and we are the only ones in the AO that work to improve habitat and feed so even though they don't bed much on my land they do travel to it almost every day. We have a lot of high narrow racked bucks which AR's are keeping in the gene pool but there are also some really nice deer. We make a point of not over hunting any one stand and all I do is bowhunt, my wife rifle hunts and my buddy does both. Welcome to the forum and welcome home. Thanks for your service.

We hunt 260 ac south of Jermyn off of Loving rd. We have really good deer numbers. A lot of small bucks and does. The mature bucks are there just hard to find sometimes. I shot a 130" 9 point this year. My brother missed a 150" ten opening weekend. The hogs are there but from what I have seen they are nocturnal. Your best chance to catch them is right at sun up or sun down. We have lots of coyotes. Over all we are very happy with the place. We see something pretty much every sit.

Our lease is 100 acres off of loving road about a mile or two east of FM1191. I leased it through a service and haven't met the landowner yet so can't say as to name. As I told HuntNFish I'm after good numbers more than trophy bucks. We plan to feed protein and corn year round. I don't have the equipment for food plots unless someone knows a seed I can just spread....
Thanks for all the comments.

I don't have the equipment for food plots unless someone knows a seed I can just spread. FWIW - You don't have to go into farming or get very elaborate to get a plot going! Our plots are only about 1/3 acre each and strategically located. When we started we had a good walk behind garden tiller & sweat to turn it. I broadcast plain old wheat with a hand fertilizer spreader. Just started using my 4 wheeler to pull the bigger spreader that I usually use behind my lawn mower. To cover it up I drug it with a piece of 4' X 4' hog panel with some concrete blocks tied on it for weight. Tiller went down so I used a friends tractor with a small plow to turn 'em under. Without the tractor/plow you could probably get a couple this size turned in a weekend & planted in a weekend. Actually planted in late Sept and by Nov it was 2 to 3 inches and covered with tracks. The deer started in on those plots the minute the green started coming up. Just lucked out on the rain...never had to water!

Shoot me a PM I married a girl from Jermyn, well was married to girl from Jermyn! Hunted west of town just past county line on south side of road and there was decent numbers of deer for small property. The road from Jermyn to Bryson always scared me on beer runs to Cottons! Had some good times at the A-Frame house on the hill!
