Ace helped deliver 4 fine looking pups yesterday and if I ever mention raising a litter again I hope someone slaps me up the side of the head. She was 4 days over due and Dr. Beach counted the heartbeats with the ultrasound machine and they were starting to labor so we had to take them. All well, strong and noisy. Pups born at noon and home with me at 4:00, technology is amazing.

Ace thought the whole thing was more than she wanted to deal with so she stood at the edge of the whelping box and watched me use the tissue/diapper method to stimulate the pups into doing their business. I was told I'd need to do this every 2 hours, I always thought this was the mothers job, I was not excited. Two rounds of me playing mother dog and she started to sniff the pups when I put them back down she took over. Now she won't leave them. Mother nature has built a pretty neat system. Beau's in Kansas getting ready to run in the Gyp Hills trial at Ted Turners ZBar ranch and has no idea. The dads have it easy in this deal.

Only problem now is 5 pups spoken for and only 4 pups. I've had worse problems. So here are the next generation of Ace and Beau's family....

And we got one of each, 1 b/w male 2 L/w females and an o/w female. The black and white on bottom of the pile. They are all having quail dreams....

Congratulations!! I've raised two litters, and really enjoyed them.

Pups are fun, but much more work sometimes than one would think. I spent most of my younger life w/hounds, bird dogs, cow dogs who pretty much would rear their own and had them in a pen. My wife decided she like Olde English Mastiffs..and being as astute as she sometimes is we've ended up with 4 in the house along with whichever of my hunting dogs happens to be allowed off
their chain..The Mastiff if you pay for a straw *about $1 grand,
and are very lucky.."C" section you may end up with 6 to 10 pups that you mostly have to nurse. We only sold one pup, and gave a
pup to my hunting Buddy's sis in Dallas area, but I figure she has probably about a good new 4wh Dr. Pickup in the four..they are fun, but rather large, expensive to feed and vet, but very smart...got me paying the bill and walkin them..Joys of the Dog World..Have fun with your pups..can't price that..Merry Xmas Don

Congrats Chet. Good looking pups, get us more pics as they get a little bigger, I love seeing puppy pictures. Especially when I'm not the one raising them lol because you are sure right about it being work but I still like it.

Congrats Chet!
Keep us up to date on the pups please. Post a picture or two of them periodically, if you will.

Glad mom and pups are doing good. I bet some people have big plans for these pups.

I'd pick the one out there by itself. I like it's range.

Not much change. 10 days cry, eat, sleep. Rowdy bunch. B/W male in the middle.

The three females are toads and testing Ace's milk supply, but the only male in the litter had what the vet called failing/fading puppy syndrome. He would fall asleep after two tugs on the spicket. We moved him to the head of the line at chow time but didn't help. Put honey on his gums and under the tounge to give him enough energy to feed. Fed him with bottle and milk replacer, but he got to where he just wouldn't or couldn't swallow. All failed and we lost him a couple of days after christmas. Took some of the joy out of the holiday but I guess stuff happens. You can get real attached to them in just a few days.

Dang man sorry to hear that Chet, and yes, you get very attached very quick, we lost one of Daisy's at only 2 days & was already attached to him, he was one I was going to keep. Puppies are alot of work & very stressful at times but also alot of fun. R.I.P. little pup.

Well, three weeks+ and walking and rough housing. Mom can't get away anymore grin

Think the tails are going to be OK, the tail up girl has Ace's body marking.

The one in the middle is a fiesty little gyp

I might have got a little close but they like the attention

The orange one is marked like Beau, might have to keep her.

I was lucky enough to see these three. Nice looking pups and Chet has done a fine job. Hey Chet--how about a few pictures getting after that wing?

Don't have any new but here's my fav. And just for you I tried to video the last time they get to see the wing with my phone. I should have waited. You can hear the wind howling and what you can't see is the wind fliping that chuker wing over and driving that liver pup nuts. I think you just click on the pic (last two) and it shows it. Bad part is it distorts some, may be cheap phone?. Anyway you can see the orange pup is about broke but the liver one could use some steadying up.
