This is for all of the rookie duck hunters.

Now that you have experienced your first duck season, are you hooked and now can't wait for the next season to get here?

Or are there any rookie duck hunters who are going to give up and never go duck hunting again?

The reason I ask is that a lot of new duck hunters are being called "Duck Dynasty hunters" and the assumption is that most will give up on duck hunting fairly quickly.

I think that assumption is wrong.

Post up your plans for next year after having experienced your first season of duck hunting. smile

I'm a first year and can't believe the season is over already. I felt as if it flew by. Already set plans for dog training and buying my own shotgun. Planned on stop dipping and using the money on hunting gear. No way I'm stopping any time soon. Counting down till next season.

This is my first year to go on my own. Ive hunted ducks for 15 years, but after not getting the opportunity to go last season, I decided to bite the bullet and make it happen for myself. I spent too much time with my bow in a tree, but the second split was wild and crazy. Several hundred miles and dollars later, I have realized that I am now addicted. Just bought 4 dozen decoys, already have 2, but bought g&h to kick my old flambeaus to my nephews. Cleaned up my bass boat to put it on the market so I can pick up a deep and wide aluminum. Found a chocolate lab from good stock to buy. Started buying cases of shotgun shells. Yeah, I'm all in...

GreyDuck, I don't think the guys who started and quit are reading this forum post-season laugh I do agree with your assessment, though. I'm sure every year a bunch of people get talked into going by a friend, show up hungover, and don't get into the sport. That's probably a vast minority of first year hunters. A whole bunch of others get hooked like we did laugh

Next year you'll be in the thousands (if you keep track)... just embrace it and start saving now laugh

I see the commercials and hear the hype but never sat down and watched it. All I know is that at 6:53am I had pictures of cupped wings dropping in my head.

Not going to waist money on calls I cant use this year. Going to replace my dbl nasty and get a whistle... maybe a good pair of waders, that's it. I will be concentrating savings on gas..and more gas. Spent about $1000 on gas hunting in January alone this year.

I don't know if you could call this my first "season" cause I only went the very last weekend. But it was awesome and I'm definitely counting down til next year! I won't get all the stuff for myself just yet. I'm a diehard upland hunter and have a lot of money invested in that and deer hunting. So it'd be hard to just start buying all the gear for ducks. I don't care for hunting public land for ducks so finding a place would be hard too. But I plan on tagging along a lot more often next year and keep working towards getting into it. I love duck dynasty but it had nothing to do with me getting into it.

My first year was this year with jseago. I'm hooked! Didn't kill a duck, but that's because I can't shoot! Had plenty of opportunities and made lots of memories. I can still picture ducks making a wide swing out in the cove and coming straight to the mojo from 150 yards out, came in right over our decoys to land. 12 shots later, no ducks! roflmao We need to do some skeet shooting in the off season. Although I do remember jseago making a sweet 50 yard shot too!

I heard that. The first 2-3 weeks can be a little silly.

That's how I feel every year when my work season starts. 2 1/2 months of straight hunting/scouting is hard to shake when getting back into work mode...like right now. Hunted and fished since I was knee high but this is definitely the funnest so far. As far as will I be back next season? At this point I dont think I have a choice, this monkey has a death grip. My wife and friends think I've lost my mind, I think my boy understands...he was drawing duck blind ideas this morning before school, lol.

I'm a rookie and can't wait till teal season!!! I've been a die hard deer hunter since I took my first one at 4 years old and I'm 32 now. After my first season of duck hunting this year I could care less about deer season!! Even though I'm sure I will still make it to the stand a time or two! Lol!!

Up on Ray Roberts I used to know just about every vehicle at every access point.

It was always the trucks with the new wader and decoy boxes on the ground next to the truck that you saw only one trip or one season.

This was my rookie year of duck hunting and the least I can say is that I am HOOKED. Although really it's been two years in the making for me I spent the 2011 season training my labrador pup to retriever duck and dove. I had her ready by the 2012 season and we tore it up. Since this season I've already massed 3 dz. decoys including spinners etc. It did get expensive between all the decoys, calls, shells, gas, food, time, energy. Worth every penny and second of it though. I forsee lots of duck hunting the in the forseeable future.

Welcome to the club guys!! I been doing this for close to 30 years and it is truely a passion. Take the time to learn to do this the right way. First and foremost, respect the resource!! Learn to identify ducks on the wing, know what your shooting. Don't shoot high, wide, and often. Respect them enough to decoy them. There is a ton of experience on this site if you take the time to read. Respect your fellow hunters ( public ) and you'll be fine. There is no doubt that DD has brought wanna be duck hunters out but they will disappear just as quick as they came. Please learn how to call. Don't scream at them just because you see them. Have fun out there!! Its truely a way of life.

Did not even get a season in. was invited for my first time 2 weeks before season ended. they said it was the slowest sitting they have ever had there only 3 ducks killed in the morning one of them being mine and just me and one other guy hunted the evening and only 2 ducks were killed and both were mine.

sense then I have bought 12 decoys a bennile 12G, about to go buy a few duck calls and have been printing out information to read at night. So you can say that i am already hooked after going one time. I am a deer hunter though and will go deer hunting the majorty of the time but I really enjoyed duck hunting
