I did some scouting last week while we still had sunshine, and found a good number of birds on public. The winds weren't right for the spots so I had to let them sit until I had a north wind come in. The weather predicted north winds on Friday, so my plan was to get out and shoot some Pintail and Teal! When I woke up Friday morning, it was too foggy to try and set up before work.

Here is what I found a day before the fog rolled in

Yesterday was our yearly predator tournament, so it took out the idea of sitting all day on these birds and scratching out a limit in yesterdays fog.

This brings us to the last day of the season hunt. While out chasing dogs yesterday, I managed to get some scouting in while driving around the county. Lots of the ponds were holding birds, but only a couple had enough to set-up on, and thin about shooting a limit. I found a nice spot that was holding a good number of Widgeon and a handful of Pintail. I decided to set up 8 Pintail decoys, and 4 mallard deeks. Again, the fog was nasty thick this morning and made for some tough shooting. The birds had to literally be in the spread swimming to have a chance at a clean shot.

The first hour and half was frustrating. I could hear the birds but, they wouldn't drop in for a look. Once the fog lifted just a little bit, it was game on. I had 4 drake widgeon on the strap pretty quick, once I was able to see the birds. I then held out for and hour or so, passing on birds in hopes of getting to nice Bulls. The Pintail just never seemed to want to work the area today. I finished off the limit with a drake and hen widgeon to say good bye to another duck season.
