I'm in the same boat. Had a hog take down my feeder two days in a row.

I had had the same problem. Concreted the legs in about 1 foot deep and bolted through the legs with 1/4” bolts. The next week the feeder was on the ground with the bolts sheared in half. Now I have 3/8” bolts and have 1” re-bar driven through the feet that are 4 feet long. They still try to dig them up but so far none have fallen.

On a side note, this lease will be up for grabs next year if anyone is interested. We had pictures of some GREAT bucks on this place and this year was the first that it had EVER been leased. Was previously only hunted by the owner. It's a beautiful place that's a little over 1000 acres that's almost exclusively creek bottom, comes with 6 elevated box blinds, 6 super-short feeder setups(40-60 yards or so) and even has a 4 bed travel trailer for your use. We paid $2375 each for 4 hunters.

Hunters to the North are like-minded hunters that are all about management and to the north of them is another ranch operated by a friend of mine (Crooked Wing Outfitters) and is likewise managed. 140-160 deer are not uncommon in this area with the chance at some real brutes. [/quote]

Are you talking about it coming open this next season (13/14)? If so is 4 hunters the max or can you have more? I have a few buddies that might be very interested. Feel free to PM

Yes, it's looking like we will be trying to find a place a bit closer and with a higher deer population.

See, that's the deal here. We knew with this lease we would sacrifice quantity with quality, but the other lease members are sick and tired of not seeing deer, so we're going to sacrifice the quality for quantity this next time and see how it works out. We're looking in the San Angelo/Ozona/Sonora area if anyone has any leads. Maybe Brownwood/Sterling City/Robert Lee, etc.

Personally, I wouldn't hunt more than 4 on this place. It simply doesn't have the deer numbers to hunt more than 4. I guess you could, but it would be overhunted in my opinion. It was 9-grand for the lease total, all you really need is corn, it's setup ready to hunt, and we determined that 4 was the max we would hunt, so we kicked one guy outa the group and just went with 4. Felt bad about it, but he was the low man on the totem pole so to speak.

Put basket around timers, or spin tech plate, and also try using cattle/ hog panels
Less pigs = more deer

I take Self Tapping Screws and put them on the legs all the way around about 2 feet below the feeder then criss cross Barb wire to each feeder leg......it keeps the Hogs from going up through the middle and from the sides and killing the feeder motor....then I t-Post each Leg down.

We started welding a 3 ft piece of angle iron as bases on our feeder legs. It's been working so far, even for the rooters.

Thermal is rediculously expensive.

I have nothing to do with the website, but www.thermaloutfitters.com rents thermal scopes for weeks and/or months at a time for reasonable prices. Might try them so you can get that mega-hog, he's a bruiser.

My condolence to the feeders. That hog needs to be put down before it destroys anymore feeders.
