Can't remember the name of the place but as you come into town from the north right before you get to the small railroad underpass there is a place on the left advertising corn for $7.99/50# bag. Stopped and purchased 30 bags in a hurry, looked like it was old corn (real dusty) and it was full of chunks of black dirt, stalks, small rocks, maize, and cob's, probably will have hell with this clogging up the feeders. Unless you have a screen to pour thru in the top of your feeders beware cheap corn!!!!

Sounds good to me, for that price I will sift it and clean it before I fill my feeder.

That would be Elkins Liquor Store, great prices on stuff in there. Its NOT the recleaned stuff other places sell but its still good enough, nothing to "beware" of. You can also go 2 blocks to the north, then turn west & go to Dubar grain, they have pallets of corn stacked & ready to go.

Dirty corn is something to beware of. Why drive 6 hours and spend 400 dollars on corn to have it stop up a feeder. I have seen the even the dust cake up and clog a feeder. IMHO

I stopped there a couple of time, but I didn't buy any corn.

All the HEB Grocery stores in my area are now selling Mumme's apple-scented corn for $8.59/50#. I don't know whether I like the scent gimmick, but I've found Mumme's corn to be super-clean and Aflatoxin safe. I'm feeding protein on my ranch at the moment, but when I start throwing corn I hope the price will be down a bit more.

I bought some just a few weeks back at cabelas and I wanna say it was either 7.99 or 8.99, and academy was 6.99 or 7.99.....

But its kinda like the gas prices.... what do you do not by gas. And theoretically if you have two feeders that hold ten bags each. and you pay an extra 2 or 3 dollars extra each bag. Then you only spent $40 extra divided by 2 or 3 months. Thats only 15 or 20 extra a month... not terribly bad...

Turn your feeder down a couple seconds. I personally am not trying to fatten em up just bring em in for a snack!

Just making observation... Prices stink but I am still going hunting and I am still driving, Now if prices get to 20 a bag and $10 a gallon for gas things will change!!!!

Viva Mexico here I come!!!

I guess what I was getting at was if you're expecting it to be clean corn it's not. We had to take off a coon cage from a feeder to pour it through, after about 30 bags we probably had 2-3 bags of stalks, cobs, and other crap pulled out. I know most of this would've stopped up several of our feeders. Plus the corn looked old, a lot of the kernels where black and even the good ones where a grungy orange/yellow shade. I will gladly pay an extra $1-2 a bag for clean corn from now on.

If the grocery store is too high ($10.99 for soybean corn) try going by Dubar grain(w overall st, 2 blkc north of the liquor store) for just plain cleaned corn.

If you are buying corn at a liquor store you are supposed to be making corn liquor not feeding it to the deer. You city boys just don't understand all of our country ways. After you have it all distilled then you use the soured mash for hog feed. Nothing better than hunting a few drunk hogs.

If you would have bought enough beer at Elkins the dirty corn wouldn't have mattered. Little things in life get to you when you don't have a buzz

This past weekend I was driving through Coleman. Turned off the main road on the south side of town. I have been in some rough neighborhoods in my life but that is as bad as I have ever seen. The government checks must have just arrived. Would have taken some pictures if I thought I would have survived.

I don't care if it's got pieces of the combine in it! If it's cheap, buy it. Cut you a piece of mesh wire, the square welded kind. Put it over the top of the barrell and pour the chunky stuff in. Disaster averted...

What I saw went way beyond cosmetics. I would like to live in the Coleman area, but no way within walking distance of the neighborhood I drove through. But after talking to the guy that farms one of our properties, not sure I could afford to live out there. His electric bill and water bill combined was $600 last month. Here in Dallas my combined bill was $280.

The Coleman cooperative electric isn't too bad, but the water will cost you a small fortune whether you use it or not.

Out here(right now) we are on the same water as in town & its not too bad. Electric like most rural areas have gone up but not too terribly bad.
