I've shot 3 deer with my TC and none have left a and the other blood trail. One dropped in his tracks and the otherran about 50 yards. Is this normal with a muzzle loader? I shoot a 223 grain bullet

I have had mixed resluts with mine. I shoot a 54 cal hawkin and a 315 grain bufalo ballet over 95 grains of loose pyrodex.
On does I have shot I got a pass through and blood trail. Only buck I shot straight through the shoulders breaking both and it was stuck under the skin of the off side zero blood trail he went 50 yards. Only hog was close range head shot on a 200+ lb boar and it didnt exit but dropped him on the spot.

were are you hitting them? sholder shots are more likely to drop them but the armpit or heart shot will usualy give you more blood

They are big heavy slow bullets, shock bullet trama and expansion are not their strong suit.

shot a pig yesterday...and no blood trail.
Most shots have been right behind the shoulder. One shot was quartering to me. Entered the front right shoulder and came out her back left hip. She ran 60 yards and never had a drop of blood.
I can't remember what brand the 223 grain bullet is. I buy them at Gander Mountain. I was shooting a 245 grain but the 223 grain with 100 grams of powder is much more accurate at 100 yards.

Id try moving back a bit and just go for a double lung shot.... or the high sholder shot will drop them dead

I shot round balls out of my .45 Kentucky Long Rifle when I did smoke pole hunting in Arkansas. They were devastating, leaving blood and parts. Don't even remember anything going very far afterwards.
To be determined

I shoot a TC Omega shooting 150 grains of powder and a Shockwave bullet. I have probably killed 20 or more deer with it and cannot remember not getting a great bloodtrail.

the two I have shot with powerbelt did not leave a blood trail. One dropped and the other ran with no trail. There was a clean passthrough behind the shoulder

I shoot a 260 grain bullet out of mine. Most of the time they drop right in there tracks. (hogs and deer) bullet placement does have something to do with it also. I've not had a problem with blood trails either.. but only have had to track a dozen or so times with my 50 cal. hope this helps.

Many yrs. back when Max Schneider got me into the Black Powder Bug and I shot, and built several..I killed a few deer and hogs w/them..from 45 cal. to 54 cal. w/lead balls and projectiles..and I don't think you'll get a blood trail because if you examine the wound it large going in and small coming out..they spend all of their energy on impact..DD
