The wife, a friend, and I took the dogs for a walk along a creek around outside of Leander. Looks like the deer shed is starting early? This is after a boil so they are a little whiter then when we found them.

Can I ask why you boiled them?

Kill anything that might have been on them.

Those look like last years sheds to me from those pics. The right shed has some dry cracks in the mainbeam it appears also. This years would have more color on them.

I thought it was to early for the deer to be shedding and with the construction in the area I doubt they would still be around here.

I am not sure what is on them. I was thought to always boil them to ensure there is no bacteria or anything on them before letting the dogs chew on them.

I have found sheds from 2-5 years before on deer that I recognized. Some in great shape and others weathered, cracked, chewed on by critters. Depends on where the drop them at as to their condition. Finding them in the open does mean they have been there all the time. Coyotes or cattle could have picked them up and moved them.

They look older to me also. I let my dogs chew on racks and bones sometimes. Mostly they bring them up in the yard and when they aren't looking I throw them on top of the shed. Don't want them to choke, you know? Why are you boiling them? Just curious.

It is always nice to find sheds from this year or years past. They are not that easy to find.

I think they lost more dirt than actual color. This is two more than I got all season so I'm impressed.

Last years sheds.

And they won't hurt your dog.

What could have been on them that would hurt a dog?

I've found some sheds with Bubonic Plague all over them before.

Yours look plague-free to me though.

Seriously, nice set.
