His teeth were in surprisingly good condition... The teeth on our mature bucks, because of supplemental feed, always show the wear of a deer 2 or 3 years younger than they are, but I expected this bucks teeth to show even more wear because he was hardly ever seen at any feeder. Whatever he had learned to live on back in the brush certainly didn't grind the teeth down as bad as I thought it would.

Stories and deer like this are the reasons I recently decided to finally start deer hunting. Never got a chance this past season but am looking forward to next season. very impressive.

It's Kryptek's new Highlander Pattern, and it's awesome gear! Just as effective as Sitka (if not more so) for half the cost. The jacket I have on is the Cadog Shield Jacket and the pants are Cadog as well, but the Alaios Pants are great for warmer weather hunting.

You can find their gear at: www.GotHuntsGear.com

Congrats on the deer!!!!! About the camo, Do you think it's a good fabric to walk around thorns?

Great question! I was very hesitant to walk into the brush in my Kryptek because I was worried it would get all torn up. It seems like the kind of fabric that would, but I was amazed by how well it held up. I had to crawl through some serious thorns to retrieve an arrow I launched at a bobcat (clean miss), and I just grimaced every time I heard the thorns scratch against my jacket, but when I got out of there, I only found three spots where threads had been pulled, and one was there before the trip.

The warm weather pants seemed even more susceptible to getting ruined by thorns, but they didn't have a single scratch on them. To get the daylight pictures the morning after I got the old buck, we drove him back to the area where he has lived forever and carried him deep into the brush to that open hill where the photos were taken. I had to squeeze through several tight spots between mesquites and didn't get any tears on my gear there either.

If you go to www.GotHuntsGear.com to get some Kryptek, call the number at the bottom of the homepage. The gear specialist's name is Justin Sparks, and he'll help you get all of the best stuff for wherever you'll be hunting.

I agree! The only problem would have been the lack of footage of the buck itself!

Glad you were able to get this old timer . I remember in your other post of the helicopter shot of him nd y'all were even amazed he was still around .. Well look like after 14 years you say . He made a mistake , but that might only be cause he was injured and maybe out of his comfort zone . Any which ways , congrats !

I love hunting ! Got to love it !

Thank you very much! This is definitely going down in my hunting history book as one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences of my hunting career... One I will absolutely never forget!
