Alright you waterfowl habitat creators and maintainers. Where can I find a flash board riser? I need one to control the water level on some private property, but don't know where to find one. Any help is appreciated.

I am thinking about putting one on my pond as well. If you find a good one (cheap doesn't hurt either), let me know.

Seabreeze culvert makes a bunch of them. I believe that's where most wrp and du projects are getting theirs from.

There are some smaller ones made out of plastic that Mack's sales. I believe 5 oaks wildlife makes those. They look like junk be most likely work.

I built mine but there is an easier and cheaper way to do it. It also stops the beavers from eating the front of the board. Attach an 8 Inch wide 8 foot long poly pipe from home depot to the drain pipe. Take a 1/4 inch nylon rope and tie it to the other end. Suspend that end at the desired water level. When it is time to drain just untie the rope and let it fall to the bottom.

Make your own, 12" piece of commercial water pipe(think big blue pipe you see on the side of the road, got mine for free from the city when they repaired a leak), build a dam over it with bags of cememnt, add a cheap rubber ball from Walmart and you have a rednck valve. Beaver or other critters won't chew it up. Just put the ball on the exit end of the pipe, when you want to drain, pocket knife. New ball less than $5, don't forget a bicycle pump.

Kinda hard to regulate water depth with only a pipe and a valve

That's one of the best ideas I have heard in awhile. How long have you seen one of these last?

Yep. I want total control without being there all day to watch it.

I pump water, so I actually only use mine as a drain. I built my ponds with spillways, so I can only add water as deep as that.

Larry Robinson with Coastal wings taught me that trick. He has been doing it for 20 years. I asked him how to make a flashboard riser and he told me not to go through all the trouble and expense of the riser and taught me the poly pipe trick. Of course I didn't and now wish I had. His work great.

Oh Steven to answer your question. Thos eflexible black poly pipes will outlast you and I on this earth. So when the pipe finally rots we aint going to be around to witness it. They are made to bury in the ground and transport water from a rain gutter away from a house.

The aluminum blocks will allow you to release water level as desired... or take them all out to let water in when your creek rises... you just gota be sure to get the blocks back in when the water starts goin out ha.

Agree to disagree. One solution doesn't fit all.

WAL,

It sounds like you basically created a stand pipe. Those are very useful in many cases, just not this particular one. I do appreciate the input though.

I can't see how it would not fit in any application a riser would work in but since you put it that way, I'll answer your question on where to find one. Here you go.
