I wrote to Kay Granger, short and sweet letter - basically said don't vote for any gun ban law or I'll do all I can to end her political career. (It was nicer than that, but that's the gist of it.) Here's her response, I'm not very encouraged by her response. At least it doesn't look like a form letter. Did anyone else get the same letter from her?

"Thank you for sending me your thoughts regarding the horrific tragedy in Newtown, CT. As a mother and grandmother, as well as a former teacher, this senseless violence has affected me deeply.

To see the lives of 20 children taken, along with the lives of some of their teachers and mentors is absolutely heartbreaking. This kind of senseless violence has left our nation justifiably shaken and outraged. It has left us all searching for answers as to how something this awful could happen anywhere in our country. We are united in sorrow and in our resolve to prevent tragedies like this one from ever happening again.

To do that, we need to have a national conversation to understand what we can do to prevent future tragedies like this one. For starters, we should look at making sure that our existing gun laws are fully enforced and carefully consider changes to those laws that protect both our constitutional rights and public safety.

We also need to ensure that there is adequate access to mental health care. I have supported legislation, such as the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act, that works to ensure those with mental illness have access to affordable treatment services. We need to discuss ways to expand access and treatment for those with mental illness and their families.

I believe we need to find a common sense solution for those gun owners who do have family members with mental illnesses. In many of the more recent tragedies, the weapons used to harm others have been obtained from family members who legally purchased the firearm. Whether it be more in-depth education for the family members or more extensive background checks, we need to find ways to ensure the safety and health of everyone.

Thank you again for writing me. Know that I will consider what you have said as we look for answers. It is good to hear from you, and I hope you will continue to keep me informed on the issues that are important to you.

Sincerely,

Kay Granger
Member of Congress"

more education would not be too bad

keep them locked up when you have young children in the home, dont give everyone you know the code to your safe, dont let your mentally disturbed family members run around with your firearms etc.... We can call it the "Common Sense Act"

Dont we already have a law that make the parent liable if a child gets ahold of a handgun and hurts them selves?

Maybe something expanding that law would be all we need. Politicians already admit that the majority of gun owners are responsible individuals. Instead of passing a law telling me how i can and can not secure my firearms, a law that basically says if my gun is readily accessible and the gun is used in a crime im in deep trouble.

And a perfect non-answer to top it off.

They blow all of our correspondence off. That's a form letter concocted by an intern and approved by Granger's legal counsel. You can get a sitting congressman's attention by your ability to organize, your ability to raise money or both. Otherwise, the letters and correspondence are largely ignored unless there is a landslide all saying the same thing. A landslide of letters all saying the same thing means "This could make a difference in my re-election".

Bingo, just like a politician to give an uncommited answer to the mass.
